Louisville Women Move Into Third at NCAA Championships on Day 2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Louisville is in third place after three podium swims in the finals on Day 2 of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday evening in Allen Jones Aquatic Center.
The Cardinals earned three four All-American honors with Abby Hay, Gabi Albiero, Christiana Regenauer and the 200 free relay team taking home hardware for Louisville and helped vault the Cards into third. Julia Dennis earned honorable mention All-American honors as well.
Virginia leads the field with 208.5 points followed by Texas (162), Louisville (117), Stanford (106) and Ohio State (93) to round out the top five schools.
Abby Hay earned All-American honors in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.62. The race was won by Kate Douglass, who went 1:48.37, the first under 1:50 performance in history to set a U.S. Open, NCAA and American record.
Gabi Albiero was third in the 50 free with a 21.30 to reset her own school record. Christiana Regenauer was seventh with a time of 21.68, which matched her prelim time. Julia Dennis finished fourth in the consolation final of the 50 freestyle, boarding a 22.87 to win honorable mention All-American honors. The event was won by LSU's Maggie McNeil, who took top honors with a 20.79 to set an NCAA record.
The 200 free relay team of Gabi Albiero (21.62), Christiana Regenauer (21.23), Julia Dennis (21.39) and Ella Welch (21.49) put up a 1:25.73 for third place. The winning time came from Virginia, which went 1:24.51 for the Cavalier's third relay win of the meet.
The NCAA Championships continue Friday with the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 3-meter diving, and 400 medley relay.
Swimming prelims begin at 10 a.m., followed by diving prelims at noon and finals at 6 p.m. Live coverage of the meet will stream on ESPN+, with live results available online and to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app.
