
Sartori and Albiero Win Gold at the Pan American Games

SANTIAGO, Chile -- The University of Louisville swimmers earned their first two gold medals of the Pan American Games Tuesday evening in Santiago, Chile.

Murilo Sartori won gold as part of Brazil's 4x200 relay team. Brazil's foursome set a Pan American Games record by three full seconds. Sartori led off the relay with a split of 1:47.52 as Brazil put up a 7:07.53 to sit atop the podium.

Gabi Albiero won individual gold when she tied NCAA Champion Maggie MacNeil in the 50 freestyle finals with a time of 24.84.

Matias Santiso swam in the 50 free prelims, boarding a 23.02 for Argentina.

The University of Louisville swimming team sent three athletes and a coach to the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. The Games the swimming competition on Saturday, Oct. 21 running through Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Gabi Albiero (TeamUSA), Murilo Sartori (Brazil) and Matias Santiso (Argentina) are representing the Cardinals on the international stage.
Team USA is sending a roster of 36 American swimmers, and leading the team will be coaches Brent Arckey (Sarasota Sharks), Mark Bernardino (NC State), Stephanie Juncker (University of Louisville), Jeremy Linn (Nation's Capital Swim Club) and Jake Shrum (University of Virginia).
Gabi Albiero will compete in the 50M freestyle, Murilo raced the 200M free and Matias Santiso will swim both the 50M and 100M freestyle. All three are eligible to race relays as well. Â
The men's 200M Free heats were competed on Sunday, Oct. 22. The men's and women's 100M Free prelims will be held on Monday, Oct. 23 with the finals that evening. The men's and women's prelims in the 50M Free will being on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with finals that same night.
