
Cards Add Two More Medals at Pan American Games

Albiero and Sartori bring home the hardware
SANTIAGO, Chile -- The Cardinals had all three swimmers racing on Day 2 of the 2023 Pan American Games with Murilo Sartori grabbing a bronze medal and Gabi Albiero picking up a silver.

Murilo Sartori went 1:47.63 in the 200M Freestyle to finish second in heat 2 of the preliminaries. He put up a 1:47.95 in the finals to snag a bronze medal.

Gabi Albiero helped TeamUSA's 4x100 Mixed Relay team earn a berth in the finals as Jack Dahlgren, Brooks Curry, Paige Madden and Albiero went 3:28.96 to be the top seed in the evening. TeamUSA went on to win the silver in the finals with a time of 3:24.21.

Matias Santiso anchored Argentina's 4x100 Mixed Relay team that qualified with a prelim time of 3:38.60 and went on to finish fifth in the final with a time of 3:31.24.

 The University of Louisville swimming team has sent three athletes and a coach to the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. The Games began Thursday, with swimming competing Saturday, Oct. 21 until Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Gabi Albiero (TeamUSA), Murilo Sartori (Brazil) and Matias Santiso (Argentina) will represent the Cardinals on the international stage.
Team USA is sending a roster of 36 American swimmers, and leading the team will be coaches Brent Arckey (Sarasota Sharks), Mark Bernardino (NC State), Stephanie Juncker (University of Louisville), Jeremy Linn (Nation's Capital Swim Club) and Jake Shrum (University of Virginia).
Gabi Albiero will compete in the 50M freestyle, Murilo raced the 200M free and Matias Santiso will swim both the 50M and 100M freestyle. All three are eligible to race relays as well. Â
The men's 200M Free heats were competed on Sunday, Oct. 22. The men's and women's 100M Free prelims will be held on Monday, Oct. 23 with the finals that evening. The men's and women's prelims in the 50M Free will being on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with finals that same night.
