Women’s Tennis Announces 2023 Spring Schedule

The Cards open up spring play at home.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis head coach Mark Beckham announced the 2023 spring schedule which features matchups with seven opponents ranked in the International Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason Top-25, two of which are inside the Top-3.
UofL will also face 10 NCAA tournament teams from a year ago, including two National Semifinalists in North Carolina and Duke. The Cardinals open the spring season with nine straight non-conference match ups, the first four of which will be held at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville. UofL will host Northern Illinois and Bellarmine on Jan. 20 and Ball State and Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 28. The Cards will head to Nashville, Tenn. to face No. 20 Vanderbilt on Feb. 3 then host four more teams before kicking off the conference slate. Louisville will host James Madison on Feb. 5, Cincinnati on Feb. 10, Austin Peay on Feb 17, and Memphis on Feb. 19.
Conference play begins the last weekend in February as Louisville hosts Clemson on Feb. 24 and No. 25 Georgia Tech on Feb. 26. The Cards will head to North Carolina to face a duo of ACC opponents with No. 2 North Carolina on March 3 and No. 6 Duke on March 5. Louisville will take a quick one game break from their conference schedule to host Xavier at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on March 12. The Cards wrap up the season with nine straight conference matches, kicking off the ACC matchups with a trip to Virginia to play No. 7 Virginia Tech on March 17 and Virginia on March 19. UofL will host Wake Forest on March 24 and No. 3 NC State on March 26 before traveling up the road to Notre Dame on March 31. Louisville heads south to Florida with a matchup between No. 11 Miami (FL) on Apr. 6 and Florida State on Apr. 8.
The Cardinals finish regular season with a pair of home matches against Boston College on Apr. 14 and Syracuse on Apr. 16. The ACC tournament will take place on Apr. 19-23 in Cary, N.C.
About Louisville Women's Tennis
The Cardinals are led by senior Andrea Di Palma. Di Palma held the No. 1 spot at singles last year for the Cards and was a key piece to the No. 1 doubles team as she and partner Tatiana Simova won eight straight matches to open the 2022 season. Simova posted a team-best 12 wins in singles last year competing at No. 4, 5, and 6. Rhea Verma, the 2022 No. 2 singles player, returns as a graduate student for the Cardinals. In 2021, Verma recorded a team-high 14 wins in singles, including ending the season with a five-match win streak. Sasha Gorchanyuk returns for another year with the Cardinals after posting a 6-12 doubles record in 2022. After posting a 6-10 record in her debut year, Tyra Richardson is set to compete another year for the Cardinals. UofL adds four to the roster this season including graduate transfer Arielle Nealy. Nealy competed for Florida A&M at the No. 3 singles position and at the No. 1 and 2 doubles position and was named to the MEAC First-Team. Maria Campos transferred from Colorado University where she became the only CU athlete in school history to play and win in every singles position in 2021 and finished the season with an 11-8 record. Cici Xin, a transfer from Central Arkansas, finished her 2021 season 12-14 in singles and 22-5 in doubles play with a 16-2 record form the No. 1 spot. The lone freshman, Jamilah Snells was a blue-chip recruit through the Tennis Recruiting Network, rising as high as No. 31 in the nation during her prep career. The Florida-native reached No. 18 in national rankings and No. 7 in the state of Florida during her juniors campaign.
