Cards Earn First Conference Win of the Season

The match came down to the final singles court where Berta Miret claimed a three-set thriller
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated the Florida State Seminoles 4-3 to improve to 7-1 and secure its first conference win of the season.
The Seminoles struck first in doubles competition with the pair of Eva Shaw and Tina Li claiming victory on the top court. The Cards tandem of Germany Davis and Lucia Gallegos tied doubles competition on court three with a 6-4 victory. Â
The doubles point came down to a tiebreak on the middle court where Florida State earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5) battle for the advantage.
In singles competition, the Cards struck first with a victory by Elena Noguero 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot to tie the match. This was shortly followed by Rebekkah Gaines giving the Cards their first lead of the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court six.
Florida State responded with back-to-back points on courts two then one to retake the lead. On court four, Peresypkina retied the match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win. Â
The match came down to the final point on the fifth court between Miret and Cricchio. After dropping the first set, Miret was able to secure the victory for the Cardinals 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2.
The Cardinals will be back in action at home on Sunday, February 22 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Miami. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. as the Cards will look to win their third match in a row.Â
