Prior to UofL:Â Gaines has 55+ career wins primarily at the No. 1 singles and doubles slots at both FAMU and UNM. Â Gaines played two seasons for the Florida A&M Rattlers, combining to go 17-1 in singles and doubles in conference play in her two years as she led the team to the 2023 SWAC Tournament championship and a berth in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, and a 2024 regular season shared title. She was named First Team All-SWAC at No. 1 singles in both 2023 and 2024 and was a member of the 2023 and 2024 All-SWAC Tournament Team.
 At New Mexico, she went 6-11 overall in singles and amassed an 8-11 record in doubles. The Lobos posted an 8-16 record as a squad, going 2-8 in the Mountain West.
She notched doubles wins over South Carolina, Tulsa, Weber St., Colorado, UNLV, UTEP, Colorado State,  and Troy . Signatures singles wins include opponents from Weber State, Abilene Christian, Wyoming, Idaho, San Jose State, UTEP, and Troy. She was an NAU Finalist and reached the round of 16 in the ITA Regionals.

According to TennisRecruiting.net, she was consistently recognized among the Top 50 juniors in the country, ranked No. 17 in the Southeast region and No. 1 in North Carolina, and earned 5-Star Recruit recognition in the U12, U14, and U16 divisions but ended her junior career as a high 4 star recruit. She also achieved a USTA National Women’s Open ranking of No. 370.
Personal: She is the daughter of Mica and Robert Gaines. Born April 11, 2003. Major is communications.
