Denton to Compete for England at 2022 Women’s U19 EURO
May 17, 2022 | Women's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's soccer sophomore defender Anouk Denton will compete with the England U19 team at the 2022 UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship, which will take place in the Czech Republic from June 27 to July 9.
Denton also represented England's U17 team at the 2020 UEFA Women's U17 Championship, but the event was canceled due to the pandemic.
"I'm really excited to represent my country at the EURO this year. This is our opportunity to show that we are the best team in Europe," said Denton. "I think the group of players that we have are world class and we definitely have the potential to win, so I can't wait to get to the Czech Republic and get going."
As a freshman at Louisville, Denton saw action in 14 matches, earning 13 starts. She scored the game-winner and her first career goal on penalty kick attempt in 90th minute of 2-1 win at Syracuse on September 23.
England will compete in Group B along with Sweden, Norway and Germany, while Group A includes host Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and France. The top two teams in each group will progress to the semifinals on July 6, just three days before the final on July 9.
