Cards Shut Out Syracuse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Softball team defeated Syracuse 8-0 in five innings in the teams' ACC series opener Friday evening at Ulmer Stadium. Â

Louisville improves to 22-17 overall (6-7 ACC). Syracuse falls to 20-16 (3-11 ACC). The teams will continue the series this Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. respectively.Â

Taylor Roby (12-6) pitched a complete game shutout, while limiting the Orange to just two hits and did not allow a walk in five innings. At the plate, she also sent a home run to the street beyond center field to open the scoring 2-0 in the first inning. Â

The Cards started the first inning strong after Korbe Otis doubled to set up Roby who followed with her team-best 14th home run of the year to go up 2-0. Â

The Cardinals extended their lead when Kendall Smith singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Mia Forsythe who scored on an error in the bottom of the fourth to put the Cards up 3-0. Later in the fourth, Jenna Servi served up a two-run single, which was immediately followed up by a three-run homer by Carmyn Greenwood to give Louisville a commanding 8-0 lead. The six-run inning was the most in an inning for the Cards since they scored seven against NC State on April 2. Â

Greenwood went 1-for-3 with one home run and drove in three runs. Taylor Roby went 2-for-3, with one home run and two RBIs. Ally Alexander went 2-for-2 and scored one run to help lead Louisville at the plate. Â

Ariana Adams (5-7) was credited with the loss after giving up eight runs, seven were earned. Laila Alves and Paris Woods registered hits for the Orange.
NOTES:
- Taylor Roby connected on her team-best 14th homer of the season, extending her career total to 39. She is second on Louisville's all-time list and needs three more to tie Courtney Moore (2004-07) who owns Louisville's home run record with 42.
- Roby tied her career-best season total of 14 home runs – set in the 2021 season. The mark stands third on Louisville's single season list. Moore set the record of 17 in the 2005 season.
- Carmyn Greenwood has reached base safely via a hit or walk in the last 10 games. Â
- Greenwood is currently leading the ACC in hits with 55 and is fifth in the ACC with 12 home runs.Â
- The 8-0 win was the Cards' sixth shutout of the season and the seventh time Louisville has won via the eight-run rule.Â
