Cardinals Clinch Series with 4-1 Win Over Syracuse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team defeated Syracuse 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium. With the victory, the Cardinals clinch the series, marking the second straight ACC series win for Louisville.

Louisville improves 23-17 overall (7-7 ACC) while Syracuse falls to 20-17 overall (3-12 ACC). The Cardinals will look to sweep the series against the Orange tomorrow at noon.

Syracuse struck first to take a 1-0 lead behind Kelly Breen's RBI single in the first inning.

Louisville tied the game at 1-1 in the second. Hannah File got the frame started with a hit and took second on Ally Alexander's bunt single. Carmyn Greenwood's base hit advanced File across the plate.

The fourth inning brought in three more Louisville runs. Hits by Jenna Servi and Carmyn Greenwood set up Korbe Otis' RBI hit followed by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Taylor Roby. Kendall Smith's RBI double plated Otis to put the Cardinals ahead for good 4-1.

Kendall Smith went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead Louisville's offense and the team recorded nine hits at the plate.

Taja Felder (1-0) earned her first win of the season, she did not allow run or a hit in 3.0 innings relief. Taylor Roby retired all three batters she faced in the seventh to earn her second save of the season.

Lindsey Hendrix (7-5) took the loss after giving up four runs on nine hits and striking out one in 3.1 innings. Laila Alves went 2-for-3 to lead Syracuse offensively.
