April 17, 2022 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team defeated Syracuse 3-2 to complete a series sweep Sunday at Ulmer Stadium.
Â
Dylann Cravens went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to lead the Cardinals at the plate. Taylor Roby (13-6) tossed a complete game, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and striking out three. The right-handed pitcher finished the series with a pair of complete game wins and a save.
Â
Louisville (24-17, 8-7 ACC) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Carmyn Greenwood drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on Kendall Smith's RBI single. Hannah File was hit by a pitch and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position to set up Cravens' RBI hit.
Â
The Orange (20-18, 3-13) countered with a pair of unearned runs in the second. Geana Torres led off the frame with a hit and a Louisville miscue allowed Olivia Pess to reach. Two outs later, Angel Jasso's two-run single evened the score.
Â
The game stayed knotted at 2-2 until the fourth inning when Cravens beat the throw for a bunt single and Vanessa Miller followed with a hit. Ally Alexander's fielder's choice put runners on the corners and a wild pitch sent Cravens home to put the Cards on top 3-2.
Â
Kaia Oliver (1-4) took the loss, allowing one earned run on three hits and striking out two in five innings of relief.
Â
The Cardinals will continue ACC play next weekend when they travel to Blacksburg, Va., to face No. 2/3 Virginia Tech in a three-game series.
