Louisville Rounds Out Regular Season With 8-3 Win Over NC State
May 03, 2026 | Softball
RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 24-ranked University of Louisville softball team closed out its regular season with an 8-3 win over NC State on Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium. Louisville finishes the season with a 43-11 overall record and an 18-6 showing in ACC play, the best conference outing for the Cards since an 18-4 Big East record in 2013.
Alyssa Zabala picked up her 14th win in the circle after 4.0 innings of work, and Brooke Gray recorded her first save of the season after 2.2 hitless innings of relief. Camryn Lookadoo had two RBIs as she tied the program record with her 20th double of the season.
Chelsea Mack went 3-for-4 with three singles, two runs scored, and two stolen bases to lead the Cardinals' offense. Bri Despines finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBIs on her second home run of the weekend. Lookadoo, Easton Lotus, and Madison Pickens each crossed home in the win, with Taylor Monroe and Jordan Williams adding one RBI apiece.
Both starting pitchers worked a scoreless first and second inning before the UofL bats came alive to start the third. Mack, Lotus and Despines loaded the bases with no outs to start the frame when Lookadoo came up to double in Mack and Lotus. A walk to Pickens reloaded the bases, and Monroe drew a walk of her own to plate the third run in Despines. Williams hit into a fielder's choice to send in Lookadoo, and Pickens came home on a throw that caught Williams stealing at second.
The Wolfpack grabbed one run in the home half of the inning and looked to threaten in the fourth, but Louisville still led 5-1 after four full innings of play. NCSU scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Cards' lead down to two at 5-3.
UofL responded with a three-run sixth that began with Mack reaching on an error. Mack swiped second and Lotus singled to put runners on the corners for Despines' three-run homer to left field. Gray retired six of seven batters faced through the sixth and seventh innings to close out the 8-3 win.
