Camryn Lookadoo sets school record with her 21st double of the season.
LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 24/25-ranked University of Louisville softball team fell 4-2 to South Dakota Saturday evening at Bowlin Stadium in the Lincoln Regional elimination game.
Louisville closes the 2026 season with a 44-14 overall record while making its 16th NCAA appearance.
"I'm very proud of our team and all of their efforts, particularly our senior class," said UofL head coach Holly Aprile. "We had a really tremendous year and we did accomplish a lot of things together, so it's a tough way to end, feeling a little bit like we beat ourselves."
Jordan Williams finished the game with two hits while Camryn Lookadoo recorded her 21st double of the season establishing a new program single season record. Bri Despines earned a walk and was hit by a pitch to extend her reached base streak to 33 games. The senior catcher reached safely in 57 of Louisville's 58 contests this season.
Alyssa Zabala was solid in relief, surrendering one unearned run on two hits and striking out two in four innings. Madi Reeves (4-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits in two innings.
The Cards jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Chelsea Mack got the offense started when she led off the game with a bunt single. The speedy centerfielder proceeded to steal second for her 45th swipe of the season and took third on an error to set up Easton Lotus' RBI single.
South Dakota (21-35-1) used a trio of hits including a squeeze bunt single to manufacture three runs in the bottom of the third and take a 3-1 lead.
Louisville got a run back in the fourth when Taylor Monroe and Williams connected on back-to-back two-out singles and an error sent Monroe home to pull the Cards within one at 3-2.
The Coyotes answered with an unearned run in the home half of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.
The Cards had a chance to score in the sixth when Monroe earned a leadoff walk and Williams delivered a bunt single. An error allowed Katie Thatcher to reach, loading the bases with no outs in the inning, but South Dakota's Madison Evans retired the next three batters to get out of the jam.
Louisville threatened again in the top of the seventh as Lookadoo reached on a fielder's choice and took second on a wild pitch. One out later, Taylor Monroe drew a walk to represent the tying run, but a flyout to the left field wall ended the game.
Evans (16-15) went the distance to earn the win, after giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits and striking out four. Autumn Iverson went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs to lead the Yotes offensively.
