Humphrey’s Homer Lifts Cardinals to Sweep of No. 1 Notre Dame

Louisville finished off a sweep of the Irish with a 7-5 victory on Sunday.
Louisville (16-4, 3-0 ACC) has won six straight and 13 of its last 14 after the sweep of Notre Dame.
The Cardinals headed into the bottom of the eighth trailing 5-4 in a game that had gone back and forth. Jack Payton started Louisville's rally with a one-out single into right center and a walk to Levi Usher put two runners on.
Following a strikeout, a balk moved both runners into scoring position for Humphrey and the sophomore clobbered the first pitch he saw into the trees beyond the right field wall to put the Cards in front.
Michael Prosecky then entered and slammed the door shut in the ninth for his sixth save of the season. Kyle Walter (1-0) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to secure his first collegiate victory.
The Cardinals jumped on the board in the first inning with a wild pitch and led until the Irish plated a pair of runs in the fourth.
Louisville grabbed the lead back on a two-run double off the bat of Usher in the sixth and Logan Beard laced a single back through the middle to make it 4-2.
Notre Dame (12-4, 2-3) surged back in front though in the seventh, getting three runs across to take a one-run lead setting up Louisville's comeback.
Riley Phillips turned in a quality start, allowing just two earned runs over six innings while taking a no-decision.
Seven different Cardinals had a hit in the game, led by two from Cameron Masterman.
Louisville finishes up its 18-game homestand against Lipscomb on Tuesday. Tuesday is Bark at the Park Night at Jim Patterson Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
