Louisville Wins Relay Gold As Part of Four Podiums at ACCs Day 3

Cards blast to 200 Medley Relay Gold
The Cardinals had two gold, including a blazing fast, record-setting 200 medley relay, and two bronze on Day 3 of the 2022 ACC Swimming and Diving.

The NC State men and Virginia women increased their leads in the team competitions after the third day of racing. For the men, Louisville is in second (634.5) followed by Virginia Tech (561), Virginia (487), Georgia Tech (382.5), Florida State (344), North Carolina (332), Notre Dame (212), Pitt (202), Duke (187), Boston College (115.5), Miami (57). Â On the women's side, Virginia leads (790.5), NC State (690), Louisville (547.5), Duke (425), UNC (365), VT (356), Notre Dame (340), Miami (273), FSU (268), GT (211), Pitt (175), and Boston College (105)

In the 200 medley relay the foursome of Tristen Ulett (24.47), Kaylee Wheeler (27.15), Christiana Regenauer (23.28) and Gabi Albiero (21.59) combined to post a 1:36.49 to place fifth.

The men's 200 medley relay team set a school, pool and conference record when Mitchell Whyte (20.94) handed over a third-place finish in the back to breaststroke specialist Evgenii Somov (22.85) who made up the deficit and gave the lead to the Cardinals. Next in the water was flyer Dalton Lowe, who went 19.50 to hold the lead. Lowe swam a blistering 19.50 fly leg for the 3rd-fastest performance ever, with only a 19.36 and a 19.45 from Joe Schooling having been faster. Abdelrahman El-Araby went 18.55 to anchor for the winning time of 1:21.84. That winning time was faster than the time their winning time from NCAAs last year.

In the 400 IM, freshman Rye Ulett posted a time of 4:09.27 to touch sixth in the A-final. Abby Hay went 4:09.85 in the A-Final for seventh. Virginia's Ella Nelson won gold with a time of 4:02.11.

In the 400 IM, Daniel Sos put up a personal best time of 3:41.77 to win gold by a full second. In the B-final, Hayden Curley put up a 3:53.55.

In the 100 fly, sophomore Gabi Albiero posted a time of 50.90, the third fastest time in school history to win bronze. Tristen Ulett was right behind her, taking fourth in 51.39. In the B-Final, Christiana Regenauer finished in 52.76. Â The event was won by Virginia's Kate Douglass' 49.86, the only swimmer under 50 seconds.

In the men's 100 fly, Nicolas Albiero won bronze with a time of 44.79. Abdelrahman El-Araby was sixth in the A-Final with a time of 45.64. Dalton Lowe finished 10th overall with a 45.89, Nikos Sofianidis went 46.15 just ahead of teammate Mitchell Whyte's 46.29, all in the B-Final.

In the women's 200 freestyle, Paige Hetrick put up a time of 1:44.80 to finish fifth in the A-Final. Polina Nevmovenko touched eighth in the A-Final with a 1:47.03. Arina Openysheva was ninth overall, winning the B-Final with a time of 1:45.76. Alena Kraus was 14th with a time of 1:46.59 and Liberty Williams went 1:46.51 and Diana Dunn posted a 1:47.31 in the C-Final

Cardinal and Brazilian Olympian Murilo Sartori won bronze in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:32.75. Colton Paulson swam a 1:34.30 in the A-Final as well. Denis Loktev was second in the B-Final with a time of 1:33.74. In the C-Final, Michael Eastman went 1:35.36 and Gus Saldo had a time of 1:35.52.
