
No. 7/10 Cardinals Complete Day 2 at ACC Championships

The No. 7/10 University of Louisville made five podiums and set four school records in the second day of competition at the 2022 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships in McAuley Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal women jumped up sixth places in the standings today to stand third overall. Virginia leads with 421 points, just ahead of NC State's 415. Louisville has 274 followed by Duke (232), Virginia Tech (221), North Carolina (216), Notre Dame (176), Miami (167), Florida State (148) Georgia Tech (109), Pitt (94), and Boston College (75).

The Cardinal men are in second, trailing only NC State (474). Louisville has 313.5 points followed by UVA (307), Virginia Tech (280), Georgia Tech (234), (FSU 228), (UNC 175), Pitt (109), Duke (106), Notre Dame (84), Boston College (79) and Miami (32). Â
Women's 200 Free Relay
In the women's 200 free relay, Gabi Albiero (21.92), Christiana Regenauer (21.59), Tristen Ulett (21.82) and Arina Openysheva (21.75) combined for a time 1:27.08 to win bronze and the fourth fastest time in school history. The Cards were in fourth in their heat until the anchor by Openysheva, who powered to the third place finish. The event was won by Virginia's 1:24.47.Â
Men's 200 Free Relay
In the men's 200 free relay the foursome of Abdelrahman El-Araby (18.96), Dalton Lowe (18.79), Nicolas Albiero (19.30) and Michael Eastman (18.93) combined for a 1:15.98 to set a school record. El-Araby's leadoff leg was also a school mark. The event was won by the Virginia Cavaliers, who set an American record with a 1:14.47 for gold.
Women's 500 Freestyle
Liberty Williams cut almost two seconds from her prelim time to win silver with a 4:38.82. Paige McCormick finished 13th with a 4:48.27. In the C-Final, Madison Luther dropped almost two seconds from her prelim time to post a 4:48.49 for second place in her heat. Virginia's Emma Weyant won the gold with the winning time of 4:37.23, dropping four seconds from her prelim mark.Â
Men's 500 Freestyle
In the men's 500 free, Denis Loktev went 4:17.46 in the B-Final to finish tenth overall. He was just ahead of teammate Hayden Curley's 16th place time of 4:22.86. Murilo Sartori posted a 4:18.64 to touch 17th and Eli Shoyat swam a 4:20.05 to touch 18th overall. The gold was won by NC State's Ross Dant, who posted a 4:10.35.
Women's 200 IM
In the women's 200 IM, Abby Hay stopped the clock at 1:55.25 for fourth place. Tristen Ulett put up a 1:56.36 in the B-Final to finish tenth overall. In the C-Final, Diana Dunn posted a time of 1:58.90 and Mariia Astashkina turned in a 1:59.08 The event was won by UVA's Alexandra Walsh.
Men's 200 IM
In the men's 200 IM, Daniel Sos set a school record with a silver medal time of 1:42.74. Virginia Tech's Carles Coll won gold with a meet record 1:40.67. In the B-Final, Colton Paulson turned in a 1:43.72 for third and Evgenii Somov went 1:45.15 to touch fourth in the heat.
Women's 50 Freestyle
In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Gabi Albiero turned in the third fastest time in school history with a 21.77 to touch sixth in the A-Final. The event was won by Virginia's Katherine Douglass, who posted a 21.00. Christiana Regenauer was into the wall in 22.24 for second place in the B-Final. Arina Openysheva was fifth in that same heat with a 22.47.
Men's 50 Freestyle
In the men's 50 freestyle, Abdelrahman El-Araby won silver with a time of 18.83. NC State's David Curtiss turned in an 18.74 for the gold. In the B-final, Dalton Lowe posted a 19.37 and Michael Eastman was into the wall in 19.67. In the C-Final, Vlad Dubinin posted a 19.90.
Men's 1M DivingÂ
Che Stephens boarded a 366.05 to finish fourth in the men's 1M diving final, just one point shy of the podium.
