Cardinals Hit the Road to Battle NC State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is back on the road for its final road trip of the regular season. The Cardinals are heading to the research triangle for two games this week and it kicks off with a Thursday matchup against NC State. The Cardinals and Wolfpack will square off in Raleigh at 7 p.m. ET and the match will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
The Cardinals offense attack has been led by graduate student forward Maisie Whitsett this season as she has impacted eight of the Cardinals 12 goals this season. She leads the team with four goals, three assists and 11 points and had a free kick that was initially saved but the rebound was put in for the goal.
Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is closing in on another milestone in her 23rd season at the helm. She is the program's winningest coach and she currently has 199 career wins and is one shy of 200.
ABOUT THE WOLFPACK
NC State heads into the Thursday matchup with a 7-5-2 overall record and are 2-4-1 in ACC play. They are coming off a 3-3 draw against Miami where they scored the final three goals of the match to earn the point. Jameese Joseph leads the Wolfpack with seven goals and 16 points on the season while Leyah Hall-Robinson holds the team lead with five assists. Maria Echezarreta has played every minute in goal and has 64 saves and a .727 save percentage on the season.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cardinals trail the all-time series between the two schools 3-5-1 but the series is tied 2-2 in games played in Raleigh. This will be the first time the two teams square off in Raleigh since 2018 and the Cardinals came away with a 2-1 win in that game. Maisie Whitsett scored her ninth goal of the season to open the scoring and Emina Ekic tallied the game-winner in the 50th minute.
