No. 5 Cardinals Sweep Florida State

Cards win 25-15, 25-16, 25-19 to stay undefeated
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Outside hitter Claire Chaussee had 14 kills on 21 swings to hit .619 to lead the No. 5 University of Louisville to a 25-13, 25-16, 25-19 sweep of Florida State in ACC volleyball action Saturday afternoon in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

The Cardinals, who remain unbeaten at 11-0, hit .439 as a team with two aces and six blocks. Anna DeBeer joined Chaussee in double digit kills with 11, adding three blocks. Aiko Jones had nine kills and two blocks. Tori Dilfer had a match-high 43 assists, adding two kills and an ace. Elena Scott had 22 digs to spearhead the Cardinal defense.Â

FSU had 31 kills to Louisvlle's 50, with the Noles adding an ace and two blocks. The Seminoles were hampered by 11 service errors and .186 hitting. Â FSU was led by Audrey Koenig and Emma Clothier, who both had eight kills.

UofL hits the road for Clemson on Friday, Oct. 1 before heading to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 3. The Yellow Jackets are No. 18 in the current AVCA poll.
Set 1
The Cardinals found themselves playing from behind early as Florida State managed to take a 7-6 lead. Louisville wouldn't be down long, railing off six unanswered points to take a 12-7 lead and force FSU to call its first timeout. The Seminoles took two points out of the break, but the Cardinals went on another four-point run to extend their lead to seven at 16-9 as Florida State took its final timeout of the set. FSU took another point after the timeout, but the Cards went on 3-0 run for 19-10 lead. The two teams traded points back-and-forth until Louisville took the last five straight points for a 25-13 win.

Set 2
Tightly contested to start, neither team was able to take and hold a lead early in the set. The Cardinals finally rallied for three straight points to take their first real lead of the second stanza 9-6. UofL continued to control play despite service errors holding them from breaking the set open as they took a 15-11 lead into the media timeout. The Seminoles scored two points out of the break to get back within two at 15-13 but the Cards answered with a 6-0 run to push their lead to 21-13. Louisville would go on to win the set 25-16 for a 2-0 match lead.

UofL carried its momentum into the third set, using the opening serve to jump out to an early 5-1 lead. Florida State cut into Louisville's lead to get within three at 9-6. The set remained close from there as the two teams traded points back-and-forth. Much like the second set, FSU rallied for a 3-0 run to stay within three at 14-11 before the Cards took a point to push the score to 15-11 heading into the media timeout. UofL continued to apply pressure, but Florida State remained strong, not allowing the Cardinals to run away with the set. Louisville would control play the rest of the way, eventually completing the sweep 25-19.
