
Cardinals Play at Miami in ACC Opener Friday

The Cardinals and Hurricanes will kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Friday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's soccer opens the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule with a road contest at Miami on Friday night. The match will begin at 7 p.m. ET and broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

The Cardinals enter Friday's match with a 4-1-1 record, while the Hurricanes are 3-3 on the year.

Louisville is coming off a 1-1 tie against No. 16 Michigan last Friday. Nina Nicosia provided the equalizer in the 21st minute and Gabby Kouzelos had seven saves and kept the Wolverines off the scoreboard in the final 90 minutes to preserve the tie.

Nicosia's goal was her third of the season, which is tied with Emma Hiscock for the team lead.

Louisville opens its ACC season on the road for the sixth time in eight seasons and they are 4-3 in ACC openers. Last season, the Cardinals opened the ACC schedule with a 3-0 win at Miami on Sept. 17, 2020. Louisville has alternated wins and losses in its ACC opener since joining the league. The Cardinals are also 4-3 in their first ACC road contest of the season.
ABOUT THE HURRICANES
Miami enters Friday night's matchup with a 3-3 record and they have alternated wins and losses throughout the season. They are 2-2 at home and are coming off a 1-0 loss vs. South Florida on Sunday. The Hurricanes have scored five goals this season, all by different players, and Maria Jakobsdottir leads the way with three assists. Melissa Dagenais has played 541 minutes at goalkeeper this season, compiling 21 saves and a .840 save percentage. Last season, Miami finished the season with a 1-11-1 record, including 0-8 in ACC play.
Series History: Louisville is 5-1-1 all-time against Miami. The Cardinals have won four straight matches and have outscored the Hurricanes a combined 8-0 in the last four. This will mark the third straight season that Louisville has traveled to Coral Gables to face Miami, winning 3-0 last season and 1-0 on Oct. 27, 2019. The Cardinals' lone defeat to the Hurricanes was a 3-0 loss at Miami on Oct. 20, 2016.

Last Meeting (Sept. 17, 2020): Delaney Snyder got the Cardinals on the board just seven minutes into the game. Emina Ekic sent the ball into the right side of the box and Snyder beat everyone to it and found the left side of the net to give Louisville a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Ekic got into the scoring column herself as she dribbled to the right side and delivered the ball to the nearly identical spot of the net that Snyder found for the first goal of the game. Louisville made it 3-0 at the 19-minute mark when Snyder found Ekic in the box, who danced around defenders and then lined it past the goalie for her second goal of the game. There was no scoring the rest of the way as the Cardinals took a 3-0 lead into the half and then cruised to the win.
