
Louisville Splits Doubleheader at Boston College

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The University of Louisville softball team split an ACC doubleheader at Boston College, falling 5-4 in extra inning in game one, but rebounding for a 10-1 win in the night cap Saturday at BC's Harrington Athletic Village.
The teams will meet in the series finale Sunday at 2 p.m. on an ACC Network televised game.

Carmyn Greenwood went 7-for-10 with two runs and three RBIs on the day, while Taylor Roby went 5-for-8 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. She also picked up the win in game two. Â

Louisville 10 – Boston College 1
In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Louisville (18-25-1, 12-19-1 ACC) used a season-high 17 hits and tied a season-high for runs to snap Boston College's five-game win streak. Carmyn Greenwood paced the Cardinals' offense with a 4-for-5, three RBI performance at the plate, while Roby went 3-for-4 with a double, and a home run and drove in a pair of runs. She also scattered four hits and struck out two in 5.0 shutout innings to pick up her 11th win of the season.

Louisville jumped on the scoreboard early when Carmyn Greenwood led off the game with a hit, moved to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch. Makayla Hurst's RBI single gave the Cards a 1-0 lead.

UofL extended the lead with three runs in the fourth. Cassady Greenwood and Charley Butler delivered back-to-back hits. One out later, freshman Taryn Weddle's pinch-hit single loaded the bases for Carmyn Greenwood's two-run single. Jenna Servi re-entered the game to run for Weddle and crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make the score 4-0.

The fifth inning brought two more Louisville runs. Roby and freshman Vanessa Miller singled and both runners advanced on the throw. Butler reached on a two-base error which plated two more runs.

Roby's two-run homer in the sixth put the Cards up 8-0. Senior Maddy Newman reached on a fielder's choice to set up Roby, who launched a shot over the centerfield fence for her team-best 13th homer of the season.

The Eagles (13-28, 8-20 ACC) got on the scoreboard with Giery's leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Louisville's offense continued in the seventh inning when Cassady Greenwood doubled, too third on a wild pitch and scored when Butler reached on a fielder's choice. Carmyn Greenwood's fourth hit of the game plated Butler for the 10-1 final.

Hurst finished the game batting 3-for-4 with an RIB while Butler and Cassady Greenwood each had two hits and scored a pair of runs.

Boston College 5 – Louisville 4 (8 inn.)
Jenna Servi went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Carmyn Greenwood had three hits and a run to help Louisville rally from a 4-1 deficit to tie the score at 4-4 and send the game into extra innings, but a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth gave the Eagles a 5-4 win.

The Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the second when Celene Funke connected on an infield single and proceeded to steal second and third, to set up Servi's RBI hit.

BC used four hits and an error to plate four runs in the third. Hits by Mataya and Laviolette set the table for Giery's three-run homer. Alatorre was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded to put the Eagles on top 4-1.

Louisville got a run back in the top of the fourth when Funke singled and stole second for her career-tying third stolen base of the game. After Jennifer Leonhardt was hit by a pitch, Servi stepped up to the plate and delivered her second RBI single of the contest to cut the lead in half.

The Cardinals' rally continued in the top of the sixth, when Carmyn Greenwood reached on an infield single and an error sent her to third with two outs in the top of the sixth. Maddy Newman earned a two-out walk to put the tying run on for Taylor Roby who sent a two-run single to shallow left field, knotting the score at 4-4.

Louisville had a chance to score in the top of the eighth when Servi and Carmyn Greenwood connected on back-to-back hits and Roby walked to load the bases, but a fly out ended the threat.

The Eagles got the home half of the eighth started with a one-out hit by Valido. Mataya's single put two on for Liviolette, who sent a hit to centerfield where Funke fielded the ball and made a throw to catcher Rebecca Chung, but Valido slid under the tag for the 5-4 final

•  In the first game of Saturday's twin bill, Funke matched her career high with three stolen bases.
•  Funke, who currently stands second on Louisville's all-time stolen base list, extends her career total to 72 and needs 10 more to move into a tie for first.
•  Jenna Servi had a career-high three hits in game one.
•  With 13 home runs on the season, Taylor Roby is now tied for fourth on Louisville's list for single season home runs. She needs three more to move into a tie for second. Courtney Moore holds the record with 17 set in the 2005 season.
•  After going 4-for-5 in game two, Carmyn Greenwood has had four-hit performances in four games this season.  She now has 21 multi-hit games this season.
•  Makayla Hurst registered a career-high three hits in game two. She is now on a five-game hitting streak.
