Cardinals Drop Series Opener at Clemson

Louisville took an 11-3 loss on Friday night.
CLEMSON, S.C. – Playing for the first time in 10 days, the fourth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team took an 11-3 loss on Friday night at Clemson.
Louisville (23-12, 14-7 ACC) was back on the diamond for the first time since defeating Kentucky on April 20 after last weekend's series against Pitt was canceled.
The Cardinals scored the opening run of the night on Friday, getting a RBI double from Henry Davis that scored Levi Usher just three batters into the contest.
However, it would be all Clemson (19-18, 13-12) from there. The Tigers hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, and kept adding on throughout the night.
Clemson put solo home runs on the board in the second and third innings, and then plated four more in the fifth to open up a 10-1 advantage.
The Cardinals put a couple runs on the board in the ninth to finish off the scoring.
Michael Kirian (5-1) took his first loss of the season on Friday, allowing eight runs in four-plus innings of work. Four different Louisville relievers pitched an inning each, including Michael Prosecky who pitched a scoreless eighth in his first appearance since March 7 at Georgia Tech.
Davis was 2-for-3 at the plate with the RBI double. Luke Brown tallied his team-leading 16th multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 as well.
The three-game series continues on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
