Cardinals Drop Midweek Contest at Eastern Kentucky

Louisville was defeated 6-3 on Tuesday.
The game was all even at three apiece before Eastern Kentucky (6-9) struck for three two-out runs in the seventh to secure the win.
Louisville (11-5) nearly escaped the seventh unscathed after the Colonels loaded the bases with nobody out. Adam Elliott entered from the bullpen and struck out the first two hitters he faced. However, a breaking ball caught the hitter and forced home the eventual game-winning run. The next batter lofted a soft single into left to plate two more.
The Cardinals held a pair of early leads on Tuesday, scoring a run in each of the first three innings. Luke Brown tripled with one out in the first and Henry Davis put UofL on the board first with a run-scoring single.
After EKU took the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, Cameron Masterman knotted the game up at two apiece with a solo home run to lead off the second, his team-leading fifth of the season.
Alex Binelas then gave the Cardinals the lead back in the third, sending a deep fly to centerfield with the bases loaded that scored Christian Knapczyk.
The Colonels got a solo homer of their own in the fourth to tie the game at three and the game held that score until the runs in the seventh.
Seamus Barrett made his first collegiate start for the Cardinals, allowing two runs in two innings. Riley Phillips gave up a run in his two innings, while Tate Kuehner was charged with three runs in two-plus innings.
Kuehner had the highlight of the night on the mound, registering an immaculate inning in the fifth. The left-hander struck out the side on just nine pitches, becoming the first Louisville pitcher to do so since Jeff Thompson on March 24, 2012 against Cincinnati.
Louisville will head to Raleigh this weekend for three games at NC State. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
