Louisville Wins Third Straight, Clinches Series Versus Boston College
March 13, 2021 | Baseball
The Cardinals recorded their first shutout of the season with a 5-0 victory Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The ninth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team secured its weekend series against Boston College with a 5-0 victory on Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Pitching for the first time since Opening Day, Glenn Albanese (2-0) threw 4.1 shutout innings, allowing just a single hit for his second win of the year. Evan Webster was sharp out of the bullpen, giving up just one hit as well. Kaleb Corbett then handled a scoreless ninth to complete the two-hit shutout.
After a quick top half of the first inning from Albanese, the Louisville (10-4, 3-2 ACC) offense went to work. Cooper Bowman and Henry Davis each drew walks and Alex Binelas made them count with his first home run of the season.
The runs were more than enough for the Louisville pitching staff, but Bowman tacked on two more in the fourth on a blast to left. The home run was his fourth of the season, all coming in the last five games.
From there, it was all about the pitching. The Cardinals limited Boston College (9-4, 2-3) to just six baserunners on the day, with just two over the final four frames.
Bowman led the Louisville offense with a 2-for-3 day, driving in two and scoring twice.
The weekend series wraps up on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
