February 11, 2021 | Baseball
The Cardinals are the coaches’ pick to win the ACC for the third straight season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball program will once again open up the season as the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The league's 14 head coaches voted the Cardinals as the favorite to finish atop the Atlantic Division and as the overall ACC winner. Louisville is the conference's preseason favorite for the third consecutive season.
Louisville received nine votes for the overall top spot in the ACC. Miami and Virginia garnered two votes apiece, while Florida State had one.
UofL earned 11 of 13 possible first-place votes to win the Atlantic and totaled 95 points overall. NC State (74) and Florida State (73) were picked to finish second and third in the division, respectively. Clemson, Wake Forest, Boston College and Notre Dame rounded out the Atlantic Division poll.
Miami was selected as a narrow favorite ahead of Virginia in the Coastal. Georgia Tech, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Pitt rounded out the division.
Louisville has won at least a share of the ACC regular season title in four of the five full seasons since joining the conference for the 2015 campaign. The Cardinals amassed a 21-9 mark in ACC play during the 2019 season to capture the most-recent Atlantic Division title.
Under Dan McDonnell, Louisville owns nine conference regular season titles spread across three different leagues.
The Cardinals are set to open the season Feb. 19-21 against Bellarmine at Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch on Opening Day is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
