No. 2 Louisville Heads Out to Face Virginia Tech and Wake Forest

Cardinals remain unbeaten at 16-0
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 2 University of Louisville volleyball takes to the road the road for another slate of ACC volleyball matches this weekend, facing off against Virginia Tech on Friday, Oct. 15 at 6 pm in Blacksburg, Va. and Wake Forest on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 pm in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Louisville vs. Virginia Tech
Louisville and Virginia Tech have met 28 time in series history, dating back to September 27, 1980. Louisville holds a 24-4 series lead with the most recent matchup between the two coming on Oct. 20, 2019, where Virginia Tech took home a 3-1 win. This season, the Hokies are 9-9, 0-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Virginia Tech will host Louisville coming off a 25-8, 25-23, 25-8 loss at North Carolina. Virginia Tech is led by second year head coach Marci Byers who was a four-time Big South Coach of the Year and all-time winningest coach at Radford where she was the head coach for 13 seasons prior to joining Virginia Tech. The Hokies feature three players with 100-plus kills on the season in Griere Hughes, Marisa Cerchio and Angel Robinson. Hughes leads the team with 166 kills, adding 32 blocks, 73 digs and five aces to her line. Cerchio is second on the team with 126 kills with 50 blocks and 24 digs while Robinson has 107 kills and is hitting a team high .367 with a team leading 74 blocks and 13 aces.

Louisville vs. Wake Forest
Louisville and Wake Forest have met 14 times in series history with the Cardinals holding a 12-2 series lead. The two teams last met on March 7, 2021, where UofL came away with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 sweep. This season, the Demon Deacons are off to a 10-7 start with a 1-5 conference record. Wake Forest is coming off a 25-20, 25-15, 25-9 loss at NC State and will host Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 15 before taking on the Cardinals on Sunday. Led by head coach Randi Smart who enters her second season at the helm. Wake Forest features five players with 100-plus kills with two having more than 170. Kamryn Malloy leads the Demon Deacons offense with 199 kills, hitting .276 with 135 digs, 23 blocks and 13 aces. Ashley Slater is second on the team with 179 kills along with 25 blocks and 29 digs and 18 aces. Delaney McSweeney has recorded 119 kills, hitting .316 and is second on the team with 56 blocks. Peyton Suess and Olivia Franke round out the attack with 107 and 103 kills, respectively.

Louisville achieved its highest ranking in program history this week as the team moved up to No. 2 in the AVCA poll after remaining undefeated for another week. The Cardinals are off to a 16-0 start, 6-0 in ACC play. The team is just four wins away from tying the program record for best start of 20-0 from 2005. UofL enters this weekend of ACC play after home sweeps of Boston College (25-14, 25-12, 25-10) and Syracuse (26-24, 26-24, 25-18). Louisville features four players with 100-plus kills, led by Anna DeBeer with 145. DeBeer is hitting .302 on the year with 115 digs, 15 blocks, and 10 aces. Rounding out the Cardinals' starters, Tori Dilfer has racked up 559 assists with 23 blocks and 12 aces and Elena Scott leads the team with 212 digs and is second on the team with 18 aces.
