ABOUT THE CARDINALS
The Cardinals extended their winning streak to seven straight games with a weekend sweep of Western Michigan. Louisville edged past the Broncos 4-2 in the opener before rolling to a 9-1 win on Saturday and breaking out the bats in a 16-0 victory in Sunday's finale.
The Louisville pitching staff was dominant over the weekend, allowing just two earned runs across 27 innings. The Cardinals surrendered just 12 hits while striking out 31 batters. The bullpen combined to pitch 8.1 innings without allowing a hit or run.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Morehead State meet for the 85th time on Tuesday. The two programs have played each of the prior 21 seasons and have met in all but two years (1984 and 1998) dating back to 1972. The Cardinals have owned the series this century, winning 19 straight over the Eagles dating back to 2001. The 19 straight victories match the longest active winning streak for UofL against any opponent (Notre Dame).
Louisville's offense has put up big numbers against Morehead State during its 19-game winning streak over the Eagles, averaging nearly 10 runs per game (188 runs in 19 games) in that stretch. The Cardinals have scored 46 runs in the last three meetings, including 20 in the 2017 victory.
Eight different Cardinals have hit their first career home runs against Morehead State since 2013. Danny Rosenbaum (2013), Corey Ray (2014), Michael Bollmer (2017), Colin Lyman (2017), Ben Bianco (2018), Zach Britton (2018), Tyler Fitzgerald (2018) and Logan Wyatt (2018) all collected their first big fly against the Eagles.

TEAM NOTES
- Louisville's offense has come alive over the last five games, averaging 10.2 runs and 12.6 hits. The Cardinals were 45-3 when they out-hit their opponent in 2019 and are a perfect 8-0 this season.
- The Louisville offense has been a doubles machine through the first three weeks, ranking fifth in the country with 34. Zach Britton is fourth nationally with seven, while Henry Davis and Justin Lavey have five apiece.
- The Cardinals finished the 2019 season ranked sixth nationally in strikeouts per game and are on their way there again in 2020. Through 11 games, UofL pitchers are striking out 12.4 batters per game, the sixth-best mark in Division I.
- Louisville has an .860 winning percentage (98-16) in non-conference games over the last five seasons, including a 78-6 (.929) mark in non-conference home games.
- After failing to swipe a bag in the opening series at Ole Miss, the Cardinals are 20-of-22 in the last eight games. Louisville has stolen at least 100 bases in six of the past seven seasons after swiping 108 bags in 2019. The one year it didn't reach 100 since 2013, UofL finished with 98 in 2017.
PLAYER NOTES
- Reid Detmers recorded the 11th double-digit strikeout effort of his career against Western Michigan, tallying 10 punchouts in just five innings. Detmers is fourth overall on Louisville's career strikeout list with 269, 36 behind Justin Marks (2007-09) in third. The southpaw is 122 away from Brendan McKay's program record. Detmers is currently second in the country, averaging 18.56 strikeouts per nine innings.
- Michael Kirian has made five appearances on the season and picked up five saves, which is currently tied for the national lead. The southpaw has been lights out, allowing just two baserunners in his 5.1 innings. Kirian has retired 11 straight hitters over his last four appearances. Since the start of the 2019 season, Kirian has a 1.45 ERA in 37.1 innings with 51 strikeouts and just nine walks.
- Adam Elliott appeared in five of Louisville's first eight games, but the Cardinals didn't need to use the southpaw in the weekend sweep of Western Michigan. It marked just the second weekend (James Madison, 2019) that Elliott hasn't pitched in during the last two seasons. Elliott's career ERA of 1.95, would rank third in the program's history and he is just 11 appearances away from moving into the top 10 all-time.
- Ben Metzinger has been on fire over the last 10 days, hitting in six consecutive games with a .522 (12-for-23) average during that stretch. Metzinger has tallied a trio of three-hit games and scored nine runs while splitting time at third base and behind the plate. The sophomore launched his first collegiate home run as part of a three-hit, four-RBI effort in the finale against Western Michigan.
- Danny Oriente had only one RBI through the first six games of the season. However, the senior has continuously delivered with runners on of late, picking up 11 RBIs in the last five contests. Oriente has been excellent throughout his career at bringing runners home, hitting .368 with runners in scoring position in his time at Louisville.
- Zach Britton has been all about extra-base hits in 2020, with eight of his 10 hits this season going for more than one base. The junior ranks fourth nationally with seven doubles, just one shy of the Division I lead. Britton doubled in all four games last week and has an extra-base hit in seven of the 11 games this season.
