
Swimming Completes Day 2 of Three Day Competition

The Albieros highlighted the day with Sumida and Somov adding wins
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville swim team completed the second day of a three day competition at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Set to mimic a championship meet such as the ACC Championships, the Cardinals raced each other in a prelims and finals format.

In the first race of the finals, the foursome of Tristen Ulett (25.26), Morgan Friesen (27.68), Alena Kraus (23.76) and Katie Schorr (22.73) won the 200 medley relay in 1:39.43. The men's A-relay team of Mitchell Whyte (21.78), Evgenii Somov (23.10) Nicolas Albiero (20.28) and Haridi Sameh's anchor of 19.33 gave them the win in 1:24.49.

Maria Sumida took top honors in the 400-IM with a time of 4:09 for the win.

In the 100 butterfly, Gabi Albiero won in 52.41 ahead of Tristen Ulett (52.54) and Alena Kraus (53.09). On the men's side, Nicolas Albiero made it a family affair with the win, boarding a 46.06. Dalton Lowe was second in 46.72 and Whyte went 48.11 for third.

In the 200 free, Paige Hetrick was into the wall first with a time of 1:48.46, just edging Maddie Luther's 1:48.87. Katie Schorr was third in 1:51.36. In the men's event, Michael Eastman won in 1:35.04 with Colton Paulson hot on his heels with a 1:35.91. Hayden Curley was third with a 1:36.53 time.

Kaylee Wheeler won the 100 breast with a time of .59.25 and Morgan Friesen was second with a 1:00.51. Somov won the men's event with a 51.63. Aidan Kreiley was second with a 52.12 and Aaron Parrott was third in 54.70.

Ulett won the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 53.41 and Ashlyn Schoof was second with a 53.76. For the men, Mitchell Whyte was into the wall first with a 46.64 and Nikos Sofianidis was second in 47.16.

In the 800 free relay, Maria Sumida, Alena Kraus, Maddie Luther and Paige McCormick were on the winning relay. For the men, Colton Paulson, Nicolas Albiero, Michael Eastman and Kyle Worrell combined forces for a 6:25.96.

Tomorrow, the Cardinals will compete in the 200 back, the 100 free, the 200 breast, 200 fly and the 400 free relay with the finals starting at 5 p.m.
