Cardinals are picked to finish eighth in the Preseason ACC Poll
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior midfielder Emina Ekic was named to the Preseason All-ACC Women's Soccer team in a vote of the league's 14 head coaches. The Tar Heels, who have won 21 ACC Championships under the leadership of head coach Anson Dorrance, received six first-place votes and 188 points to edge 2018 champion Florida State (eight first-place votes, 185 points).
Ekic was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List last week. The junior earned second team All-American honors by the United Soccer Coaches Association last season as a sophomore. She was named a first team All-Atlantic Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches Association. Following the regular season, Ekic earned first team All-ACC honors.
The Louisville native was outstanding in ACC play last season. She finished the regular season with seven goals and five assists for 19 points. In her sophomore campaign last year, She earns preseason All-ACC honors for the second straight year.
Virginia finished third in the voting with 163 points, while Duke and Clemson were fourth and fifth with 155 and 121 points, respectively. NC State was picked sixth in the voting, followed by Wake Forest, Louisville, Notre Dame and Boston College. Virginia Tech, Miami, Pitt and Syracuse round out the poll.
