
Louisville Baseball Summer Update – July 3

The Cardinals have 19 student-athletes on summer ball assignments.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team has 19 student-athletes on summer ball assignments across five summer leagues and the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
Below are some of the highlights through games of July 2.
USA Baseball Collegiate National Team
Reid Detmers (Player Page)
3 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 2 K
Detmers started in the Red-Blue Series, tossing three scoreless innings. He was selected to the final 26-man roster as the USA CNT takes on Cuba in the 8th Annual International Friendship Series.
Cape Cod League
Kerry Wright – Bourne Braves (Player Page)
2 IP, 0 R, 0 H
Wright pitched two scoreless frames on June 29 in his only outing of the summer to this point.
Northwoods League
Andrew Benefield – Madison Mallards (Player Page)
.339 (41-for-121), 4 2B, 9 HR, 25 RBI, 25 BB, .474 OBP
Benefield has been one of the top players in the Northwoods League through the first half of the season. He currently leads the NWL in home runs, is sixth in on-base percentage, and ranks eighth in hits, RBIs and walks.
Perfect Game League
Ben Metzinger – Albany Dutchman (Player Page)
.279 (12-for-43), 5 2B, 4 RBI, 16 BB, .475 OBP
Metzinger got off to a hot start to the summer, tallying five doubles in his first six games. The catcher has shown a good eye at the plate with 16 walks in 15 games.
Prospect League
Tim Borden – Quincy Gems (Player Page)
.281 (9-for-32), 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI
Borden has played nine games in Quincy, Illinois, and is riding a six-game hitting streak in which he is hitting .400. Three of his nine hits have been for extra bases, including a solo home run on June 26.
New England League
Garrett Schmeltz – Newport Gulls (Player Page)
2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 K
Schmeltz made his summer debut on July 2, picking up a pair of strikeouts on his way to two scoreless innings.
