Women's Soccer Unveils 2019 Schedule
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following their NCAA Championship appearance, the University of Louisville women's soccer team announced its 2019 regular season schedule on Friday. Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes' team will face 10 NCAA Tournament participants, including national runner-up North Carolina and top-10 finisher Duke.
"The 2019 schedule will be one of the most challenging schedules we have ever put together," said Ferguson-Dayes. "The non conference portion as well as the conference portion will provide us with a wonderful platform to help prepare us for our goal of post season play. We are coming off a great 2018 campaign and we will look to continue that momentum through the 2019 season."
The schedule opens with an exhibition match against Butler (Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m.) before the season officially begins at Ohio State on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals will make their home debut at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 25 when they face Morehead State at 7:30 p.m. The matchup with the Eagles is the first of seven consecutive at Lynn Stadium, including non-conference meetings against Indiana, Vanderbilt and Saint Louis.
The Cards commence ACC action at home against North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m., and will host Wake Forest, Clemson, Duke and NC State, with the Wolfpack closing the season on Halloween night. Louisville will be tested on the road as they travel to Syracuse, Boston College, Notre Dame, Virginia and Miami.
If they qualify, the Cards will play in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 3, followed by the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8 and championship match on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Louisville returns 10 starters for the 2019 season. Last season, the Cardinals posted a 12-7 record, finishing tied for fifth in the ACC with a 6-4 record. In the NCAA Championship, the Cardinals fell, 2-1, to Tennessee in a dramatic match in Knoxville.
Sophomore Emina Ekic earned second team All-American and first team All-ACC honors as she tallied six goals and five assists. Junior Brooklyn Rivers was named to the third team, finishing the season with eight goals and six assists while freshman Maisie Whitsett led the team with nine goals. Gabby Kouzelos returns in goal for the Cardinals. She finished her sophomore season with a 1.06 goals against average along with seven shutouts.
