Louisville improved to 36-9 on the season and 25-5 on its home field.
Louisville (36-9) scored in double figures for the 10th time in the last 13 games and improved to 25-5 on its home field this season.
Reigning ACC and National Player of the Week Alex Binelas continued his hot ways at the plate on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 with his seventh and eighth home runs of the season. The freshman drove in four in his first multi-homer game of his collegiate career.
Tyler Fitzgerald used the long ball in the victory as well, launching a towering shot over the left field wall for his sixth of the year as part of a 2-for-5 night with three RBIs. Lucas Dunn (3-for-5), Jake Snider (2-for-4) and Zach Britton (2-for-3) all had multi-hit nights as well.
Bryan Hoeing (3-2) picked up the victory out of the bullpen, giving up just one hit in three scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Shay Smiddy, Adam Elliott and Luke Smith each threw an inning to close out the game.
Western Kentucky (20-22-1) jumped on the board with a solo home run in the top of the second inning.
The Cardinals answered in the bottom half though, with Binelas going the other way for a two-run shot that pushed Louisville in front. Later in the inning, Dunn singled off the glove of the diving third baseman to bring another run across the plate.
In the fourth, the Hilltoppers moved back in front with three runs to take a 4-3 lead. However, the Cardinals had an immediate answer once again and never looked back.
Louisville drew three consecutive walks to lead off the bottom of the fourth and cashed in all three. Fitzgerald tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Logan Wyatt gave the Cardinals the lead for good on a groundout. Binelas then tacked on another run with a single to finish off the three-run frame.
UofL added three more tallies in the fifth on run-scoring singles from Dunn, Snider and Fitzgerald, and Fitzgerald and Binelas each homered in the seventh to cap the offensive night.
Louisville takes to the road this weekend for a three-game series at Notre Dame starting on Friday. First pitch for the series opener from South Bend, Indiana, is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., ET.
