The Cardinals picked up 6-1 and 10-7 victories on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 10^th-ranked Louisville baseball team swept a doubleheader and clinched the weekend series on Friday against Wake Forest at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Louisville (21-6, 8-3 ACC) won 6-1 in the opener behind another strong performance from Reid Detmers, and followed it up with a 10-7 come-from-behind victory in the nightcap.

The Cardinals have swept each of their three doubleheaders this season and have now won 18 of 23 ACC series played at home since joining the conference in 2015.

Louisville jumped on the Demon Deacons early on Friday, scoring four times in the first two innings. Danny Oriente hammered a double that short-hopped the left-centerfield wall to plate a pair of runs in the first and Tyler Fitzgerald tucked a ball inside the first base bag for a two-run triple in the second.

The four-run cushion would be more than enough for Detmers, who tallied his fifth double digit strikeout effort in seven starts this season. The sophomore retired the first 10 batters he faced on Friday, before running into the only trouble he faced all day.

Wake Forest (15-13, 5-6) collected three straight hits to score their only run of the game in the fourth, but Detmers buckled down to retire 11 of the next 12 batters he faced. He exited after a pair of hits in the eighth, but Michael McAvene quickly cleaned it up getting a double play on his second pitch out of the bullpen.

The Cardinals added two more runs on singles from Henry Davis and Justin Lavey as insurance in the bottom half of the eighth before McAvene finished things off for his second save of the year.

Detmers (5-1) finished with just one run allowed in 7.1 innings, striking out 10 without a walk. All nine Louisville starters registered at least one hit or walk in the win.

The second game of Friday's doubleheader started in reverse fashion, with Wake Forest scoring the first four runs of the game. The Demon Deacons plated four on five hits in the third inning to put UofL in a hole.

Logan Wyatt helped cut the deficit in half in the fourth, doubling home Jake Snider in the fourth and later scoring on a passed ball. After a Wake Forest solo homer pushed the lead to three, Lavey launched his first long ball of the season in the fifth to make it a two-run game again.

The Cardinals kept chipping away at the deficit, with Jared Poland making it a one-run game with a run-scoring single in the sixth. Louisville finally busted through for good in the seventh, taking control with a five-run frame.

Fitzgerald pushed the Cardinals into the lead for the first time with a bases loaded double that scored two. Snider added a run with a groundout and Oriente brought another home with a perfectly executed squeeze bunt. Wyatt then added the final blow of the inning with his second home run of the season.

Louisville held on from there, getting a strong effort from Jack Perkins out of the bullpen for the first win of his career. The freshman allowed just one run in 2.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Michael Kirian tallied his first career save after recording the final four outs.

Like in game one, all nine starters reached base in the second game with seven coming around to score at least one run.

Louisville and Wake Forest are scheduled to wrap up the series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium, with Sunday available should weather be a factor on Saturday.
