ABOUT THE LOUISVILLE CARDINALS
The Cardinals are set to begin head coach Dan McDonnell's 13th season and enter 2019 ranked as high as fourth in the national polls. UofL is coming off a 45-19 record in 2018, its seventh straight 40-win season and the 11th in 12 seasons under McDonnell. The Cardinals advanced to the championship round of an NCAA Regional for the seventh straight season.

Louisville returns 24 letterwinners from the 2018 squad, including seven position starters and 11 pitchers. All-American first baseman Logan Wyatt is back for his junior season after leading the team with a .339 average and 69 RBIs last season. Wyatt has been named a preseason All-American by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, D1Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game.

Left-hander Nick Bennett also garnered preseason All-America recognition from the NCBWA and Perfect Game. The junior posted an 8-2 mark as a sophomore with a 2.84 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 73 innings pitched. Bennett is a two-time All-ACC selection and was a Freshman All-American in 2017.

ABOUT CONNECTICUT
Connecticut begins 2019 ranked 20th in the Perfect Game preseason poll following a 37-22-1 mark and NCAA Regional Final appearance last year. The Huskies were picked to finish third in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll and return the AAC preseason Pitcher of the Year in Mason Feole.

Louisville and Connecticut have played 28 games previously, all from 2006-14. The Cardinals are 18-10 all-time against the Huskies, with a three-game sweep in the most recent meeting during the 2014 season.

- Louisville has 24 games on its schedule against teams ranked inside the top 25 in at least one of the six major preseason polls (Clemson, Connecticut, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi, NC State, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest).
- The Cardinals have won eight consecutive weekend series against nonconference opponents dating back to 2016, with a cumulative 23-1 record in those series.
- Louisville enters 2019 as an experienced bunch with 13 position players, seven starters, and 11 pitchers returning from last season.
- UofL closed the 2018 season by winning 25 of its last 33 games. The Cardinals were also 12-3 in the second half of the ACC schedule.

LOUISVILLE TABBED AS PRESEASON ACC FAVORITE
The Louisville baseball team was voted as the 2019 ACC preseason favorite by the league's 14 head coaches. The Cardinals were selected as the favorite in both the Atlantic Division and the conference.

Louisville received seven first place votes in the Atlantic Division and tallied 90 points to narrowly edge out Florida State, which picked up six votes for the top spot and 86 points. Clemson was third with 71 points followed by NC State (53), Wake Forest (49), Notre Dame (24) and Boston College (19).

North Carolina was a near unanimous selection to win the Coastal Division, as 13 coaches voted the Tar Heels in the top spot. Virginia received the other first place tally and is tied with Duke for the second position with 64 points. Miami (61), Georgia Tech (59), Pitt (24) and Virginia Tech (23) round out the rest of the division.

LOUISVILLE IN NATIONAL POLLS EVERY WEEK SINCE START OF 2012
Louisville, which surpassed its previous high national ranking of No. 2 (in 2016) with the No. 1 ranking on March 13 and March 20 during the 2017 season, has enjoyed a historic run by remaining ranked in at least one major national poll every week since the release of the 2012 preseason rankings -- the longest such span in school history.

LOUISVILLE 2018 RECRUITING CLASS AMONG BEST IN COUNTRY
The University of Louisville baseball program received its highest recruiting ranking in program history after D1Baseball tabbed the 2018 class at No. 3 in the nation. Louisville's 2018 class was also ranked fourth nationally by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

The 2018 class ranking marked the ninth time in the last 11 years Louisville has earned a top 25 national recruiting ranking under the guidance of head coach Dan McDonnell. The Cardinals had the top class in the ACC according to D1Baseball and was among five ACC programs in the top 25 classes ā No. 6 Florida State, No. 8 Miami, No. 12 Clemson and No. 17 Virginia.

Since opening the gates at Jim Patterson Stadium in 2005, the Cardinals have won more than 77 percent of their games in the ballpark posting a 371-107 record (.776 winning percentage), including an impressive 33-4 mark during the 2017 season at the corner of Third and Central. Hailing from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Pinkham has made 58 appearances with 26 starts behind the plate during his three seasons with the Cardinals. After missing the 41 games of 2018 recovering from off-season injury, Pinkham closed his junior season with 17 appearances and 11 starts.

The television schedule is headlined by a pair of games slated for ESPNU. The Cardinals will host Vanderbilt on May 7 in the annual Battle of the Barrel and will later appear on ESPNU May 14 at Indiana.

SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM CONTINUES FOR LOUISVILLE
As the University of Louisville baseball team turns its focus to the spring semester and the 2019 season, the Cardinals completed another strong performance in the classroom in the 2018 fall semester registering a cumulative 3.277 GPA marking the 15th consecutive semester the program has achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or better.

Overall, 33 members of the Louisville baseball team closed the 2018 fall semester with a 3.0 GPA or better. The current stretch of academic success for the Cardinals dates back to the fall semester in 2011. The span of 15 straight semesters with a team GPA of 3.0 of better coincides with unparalleled success on the field for Louisville, which has three College World Series appearances, five NCAA Super Regional berths, seven NCAA Regional bids and six conference championships during those seven seasons.

The 2018 fall semester culminated with a trio of Louisville baseball alumni ā pitcher Cody Ege, infielder Blake Tiberi and pitcher Adam Wolf ā earning their undergraduate degrees from UofL. Ege pitched three seasons for the Cardinals from 2011-13 before signing professionally with the Texas Rangers as a 15th round selection in the 2013 MLB Draft. Tiberi was a member of the Cardinals from 2014-16 prior to signing with the New York Mets after being selected in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Wolf pitched three seasons for Louisville from 2016-18 before signing with the Detroit Tigers after going in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
