Women won seven events and both relays
The No. 8/16 Louisville Cardinals fell to the No. 3/11-ranked Indiana University men's and women's swimming and diving teams Friday afternoon at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind.

The No. 3 Indiana men's team defeated the No. 8 Louisville men 187-106 for the Hoosiers' 30th straight dual meet victory. The No. 16 ranked Cardinal women fell to the 11-ranked Hoosiers 154.5-145.5 with the Cardinals winning seven events and both relays.

The Cardinal women were buoyed by multiple winners Mallory Comerford (100 free, 200 free, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay), Alina Kendzior (100 back, 200 back, 200 medley relay), Grace Oglesby (100 fly, 200 fly, 200 medley relay) and Avery Braunecker (40 free, 400 free relay). Â Â

For the Cardinals in the women's platform, Annika Holland was third with a 240.75 followed by Brianna Price in fourth with a 208.80 and Sophia Middendorf in sixth with a 143.03. On the men's side, the Cardinals were led by Daniel Fecteau, who finishesd third on the platform with a score of 286.20.

In women's 1-meter diving:  Molly Fears was second with a 284.18, Michaela Sliney was third with a score of  282.23, Annika Holland was fifth with a 252.90 and Brianna Price was sixth with a 249.23, Elizabeth Lambert took tenth with a 206.18 and Sophia Middendorf was 11th with a 151.88. In men's 3M Diving, Daniel Pinto was fourth with a score of 362.85 and Daniel Fecteau was seventh with a score of 304.95 for the Cards.

The swimming events began with the women opening the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.47 put up by Alina Kendzior (25.46), Mariia Astashkina (28.30), Oglesby,24.45 and an anchor of 22.26 by Comerford. The Cardinal B relay touched second in 1:42.13 put up by Ashlyn Schoof (26.36), Kaylee Wheeler (28.43), Nastja Govejsek (24.38) and Casey Fanz 22.96. The Cardinals' men's 200 medley relay touched second with a time of 1:27.23 put up by Nick Albiero (22.22), Evgenii Somov (24.28), Zach Harting (21.41) and Andrej Barna (19.32).

In the women's 1000 freestyle, Sophie Cattermole was the top Cardinal, touching fourth in 10:06.50. Teammate Emily Moser was sixth in 10:47.26. For the Cardinal men, Marcelo Acosta stopped the clock at 9:12.62 for third place. Fellow Cardinal Graham Barrett was 6th in 9:26.43 and TC Smith was 7th in 9:26.97 with Hayden Curley finishing 8th in 9:30.46.

Senior Mallory Comerford won the 200 free in 1:47.31 for the Cardinals with teammates Diana Dunn touching fourth in 1:50.23, Arina Openysheva was fifth in 1:50.40 and Annette Schultz was 8th in 1:52.90. On the men's side, Cardinal Bartosz Piszczorowicz touched third in the men's 200 free with a 1:38.56. Colton Paulson was fourth in 1:38.73, Kyle Worrell was seventh in 1:42.35 and Sam Steele was eighth in 1:43.17.

Cardinal senior Alina Kendzior won the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.90. Teammate Ashlyn Schoof was sixth in 56.68 and Sofie Underdahl was 7th in 56.93. For the men in the same event, Mitchell Whyte touched second with a time of 48.22. Nikkos Sofianidis was third in 49.05 and Jack Wever was sixth in 50.31.

Mariia Astashkina took third in the 100 breast, posting a 1:02.69. Morgan Friesen was fourth in 1:03.15, Kaylee Wheeler was seventh in 1:03.33 and Lauren James was eighth in 1:05.21. Â For the men, Cardinal sophomore Evgenii Somov hit the wall second with a time of 54.91. Chase Sellers was 6th in 57.95, Michael Hampel was 7th in 57.98 and Griffin Manning was 8th in 59.73.

The Cardinals took the top two spots in the 200 butterfly with Grace Oglesby taking top honors with a 1:59.70 as the only sub two minute finisher. Alena Kraus was second in 2:01.07 and Carley Lowe was seventh in 2:06.15, Kelly Tichenor finished out the event in eighth in 2:07.59. For the men, Nick Albiero was second in the 200 butterfly with a 1:47.49. Zach Harting was fourth in 1:48.04, Jarrett Jones was 6th in 1:49.80 and Daniel Sos completed the Cards' slate with a 1:51.03.

Avery Braunecker was the fastest in the field with the winning time of 23.07 in the 50 free. Arina Openysheva was third in 23.38, Lainey Visscher was 5th in 23.56 and Casey Fanz was 6th in 23.58 in a hotly contested finish. Andrej Barna took second in the men's 50 free with a 20.21 with teammate. Mihalis Deliyiannis taking fifth in 20.64 and Matyi Kovacs putting up a 21.00 for eighth.

Mallory Comerford won her second sprint event with the 49.71 win in the 100 free. Avery Braunecker was third in 51.18, Casey Fanz was 6th in 51.43 and Lainey Visscher is 7th in 51.56. For the men, Andrej Barna was second in the men's 50 freestyle with a 44.27. Bartosz Piszczorowicz was third in 44.99, Tanner Cummings was 6th in 46.27 and Mate Kovacs was 7th in 46.68.

Sofie Underdahl was fourth in 2:00.92, Annette Schultz was fifth in 2:03.07, and Ashlyn Schoof was seventh in 2:04.15. Nikkos Sofianidis was the top Cardinal finisher in the men's 200 backstroke with a fourth place time of 1:48.20. Mitchell Whyte was fifth in 1:48.31 and Jack Wever was 7th in 1:50.25!

Mariia Astashkina touched fifth in the 200 breast with a 2:16.19, Morgan Friesen is close behind with a sixth place time of 2:16.49. Lauren James was 7th in 2:20.83 and Kaylee Wheeler was 8th in 2:24.40. Evgenii Somov touched third in a wild finish of the men's 200 breaststroke. He was one of three under two minutes with a 1:59.89. Daniel Sos was sixth in 2:05.65 and Michael Hemple was seventh in 2:08.41.

In the 500 free, Maria Sumida takes third in 4:52.56 and Sophie Cattermole is sixth in 4:58.19. Arina Openysheva is 7th in 5:02.61 and Emily Moser wraps up the field with a 5:19.51 for 8th. Â For the men, UofL's Colton Paulson was second with a time of 4:34.42, followed closely by T.C. Smith's third place time of 4:35.95 and Marcelo Acosta's 4:36.52 and Graham Barrett's 4:39.07 for fourth and fifth.

Zach Harting touched second in the men's 100 fly with a 47.84. Nick Albiero was fourth in 48.84. Nikkos Sofianidis was seventh in 49.83 and Mitchell Whyte was eighth in 50.35.

In men's 1M Diving, Daniel Pinto took fourth place for the Cards with a 322.88, Daniel Fecteau was fifth with a 306.98 and Sean Riley put up a 259.50. In women's 3M diving: Cardinal Molly Fears  was second with a score of 325.50, Michaela Sliney was third with a 266.10, Brianna Price was fourth with a 258.08, Annika Holland had a 239.40 9, Elizabeth Lambert posted a 201.53 and Sophia Middendorf had a 179.63.

In 200 IM, Maria Sumida was fifth 2:02.71, Grace Oglesby was sixth (2:03.81), Diana Dunn was 7th (2:03.84), and Mariia Astashkina was 8th (2:05.62). For the men, Jarrett Jones touched third in the 200 IM with a 1:50.43. Evgenii Somov was fifth in 1:50.98 and Daniel Sos was 7th with a 1:51.14 followed by Chase Sellers at 1:54.33.

The Cardinal women took the 400 free relay in 3:19.50 with Avery Braunecker (51.00), Mallory Comerford (48.70), Casey Fanz (50.01), Arina Openysheva (49.79) for the win. In the 400 free relay, Matyi Kovacs (45.67), Tanner Cummings (45.46), Abel Aulbach (46.43) and Colton Paulson (45.49) put up a time of 3:03.05 to touch third.
