Bio
Junior: Wever proved to be a valuable asset in the backstroke events throughout his junior season with the Cardinals. At the ACC Championships, he finished sixth in the 200 backstroke (1:42.66), 14th in the 100 backstroke (47.38), and 18th in the 200 individual medley (1:45.87). He posted eight top-6 finishes during the abbreviated dual meet season, highlighted by a runner-up showing in the 200 backstroke and a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke against Kentucky. In the dual meet against Notre Dame, he raced to fourth in both the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley while taking fifth in the 100 backstroke. He also finished second in the 200 backstroke against Cincinnati and won that event at the Louisville Invitational. For his efforts in the classroom, Wever was named to the All-ACC Academic Team.
Sophomore: Wever continued to make a splash for the Cardinals throughout his sophomore season in the backstroke events. At the Purdue Invitational, he finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (48.69) and eighth in the 200 backstroke (1:49.31) and won both of those events in 47.61 and 1:43.72, respectively, at the UofL First Chance Invitational. Wever swept both the 100 (49.87) and 200 backstroke (1:50.11) in the dual meet against Xavier and recorded nine additional top-5 finishes during the season. For his performances in both the pool and in the classroom, Wever was awarded ACC Honor Roll honors.
Freshman: Wever put up a pair of personal best times at the Louisville First Chance Meet to cap off his inaugural season as a Cardinal. He won the 100 back with a time of 48.51, while also taking first in the 200 back with a 1:47.18. At the IU Invitational, Wever finished 14th overall in the 200 back (1:47.46), while also taking 19th in the 100 back (49.19). In the dual meet season, Wever’s top performance occurred in the Cards’ win over Northwestern, where he took third in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 back. At the Phillips 66 National Championships, Wever raced the 200m back (2:02.75) and earned a best time in the 100m back (55.83).
Prep: Wever of St. Louis, Mo. joins the Cardinals as a backstroke and IM specialist. He competed at the high school level for Kirkwood and coach Matthew Beasley, where he won the state titles in the 200 IM and 100 back at the most recent MSHSAA Class 2A Championships. Wever’s 100 back title was the second of his career, he won the event as a junior and finished in the bronze-medal position as a sophomore. Wever also swam club for Clayton Shaw Park under coach Dave McCrary and holds best times of 21.68 in the 50 free, 46.88 in the 100 free, 49.67 in the 100 back, 1:46.93 in the 200 back and 1:49.57 in the 200 IM.
