Cardinals Complete First Day of UofL Invitational

Louisville recorded a win in each event.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming teams posted nine wins on the first day of competition at the UofL First Chance Meet on Saturday evening at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
"Great energy today with our team, with the crowd to put together some finishing touches for our conference squad and some of our swimmers who are focusing on this meet," said UofL head coach Arthur Albiero. "A lot of our young guys showed a lot of progress. It's very exciting for what's to come tomorrow, but also for what's to come in the next couple of weeks."
In the 200 IM, Chase Sellers opened the evening with a victory, stopping the clock in a time of 1:48.55.
Bartosz Piszczorowicz dropped over 11 seconds from his prelim swim to win the 500 free with a time of 4:26.31. Graham Barrett also lowered his mark from the morning session to finish second in a 4:34.73.
Michael Hampel won the third straight event for the Cardinals in the 100 breast, touching the wall in a time of 54.45.
In the 200 back, Sofie Underdahl registered a time of 1:57.27. In the men's race, Jack Wever cut nearly a full second from his prelim time to place first with a 1:46.44. Hayden Curley touched second with a 1:49.77.
Katie Schorr won a close 100 free race, dipping under the 50-second barrier with a time of 49.85. Annette Schultz was just behind with a time of 49.96, followed by Emily Moser in a 53.11.
Tanner Cummings captured the victory in an all-Cardinal men's 100 free race with a time of 43.93, narrowly edging Abel Aulbach who finished second with a 44.07. Also swimming for the Cardinals were Mihalis Deliyiannis (44.29), Santiago Aguilera (44.79), Kyle Worrell (44.85), Michael Eastman (44.93) and Derek Sander (45.93).
Kelly Tichenor broke the two-minute mark in the 200 fly, slashing just under five seconds from her morning swim to win with a time of 1:59.45. In the men's race, T.C. Smith registered a time of 1:49.48.
The Cards will be back in action for the final day of the UofL Invitational tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
