Cardinals Travel to Dayton and Michigan This Week

Cardinals face two tough road tests this week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. --Â Louisville enters the the second weekend of action with a 2-0 overall record. Â The Cardinals defeated Wright State 8-1 in the home opener and defeated Xavier 2-1 in overtime on Sunday night. Â Freshman Maisie Whitsett scored the game-winner against the Musketeers with eight seconds remaining in overtime. Â Â

Whitsett currently leads the conference and the ACC in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points. Â Freshman Delaney Snyder ranks second on the team with two goals and one assist for five points. Â Returning leading scorer Emina Ekic ranks third with two goals after the first week of play. Â

Gabby Kouzelos has started every goal in game for the Cardinals. Â She has a 1.07 goals against average and a .333 save percentage. Â Senior Gabrielle Vincent anchors the Cardinals defense at centerback.

Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 19th season with the Cardinals. She has led
Louisville to four NCAA tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011. Â
 SCOUTING DAYTON
The Dayton Flyers are off to a 2-0-0 start this season, the best start for Dayton since 2011. Like the Cardinals, Dayton won 2-1 in overtime against William & Mary to win the JMU Fairfield by Marriott Invitational. Â They defeated host James Madison with a come from behind 2-1 win. Â

Four different players have scored for the Flyers.  Freshman Izzy Greene was named the A-10 Rookie of the week after scoring  the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to give the Flyers a come-from-behind victory on the road over James Madison.  Keagin Collie, Hannah Osland, and Morgan Henderson all have two points this season.Â

Kaelyn Johns leads the team in goal with a 2-0 record. Â She owns 0.97 goals against average while collecting five saves on the year. Â Â Â Â

Head coach Eric Golz is in his second season with the Flyers. Â He guided Dayton to a 9-9-2 overall record in his first season. Â
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton leads the series 11-1-0 over Louisville. The Cards won the last meeting 2-0 on November 12, 2011 in the NCAA Tournament at Cardinal Park. Â Â
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
Michigan continues its season-opening homestand this week as they host Marquette on Thursday before welcoming the Cardinals at U-M Soccer Stadium on Sunday. The Wolverines enter the weekend with an overall record of 2-0 after a 3-1 victory over Boston University on Thursday and a 2-0 win over Western Michigan on Saturday. Â

Sophomore Nicki Hernandez earned five points in the opening weekend. Â Hernandez netted a goal against Boston University and followed up with the game-winning goal and an assist against Western Michigan. Sophomore Izzy Nino made her start in goal for the Wolverines. Â She owns a 0.50 goals against average along with three saves on the season. Â

Head coach Jennifer Klein is in her first season at Michigan. Â She came to Michigan after spending four seasons at USC as an associate head coach and assistant coach. Â Â Â Â
