Whitsett Named ACC Offensive Player of the Week

Louisville freshman earns the first ACC honor of the season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville freshman forward Maisie Whitsett has been named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while North Carolina senior defender Julia Ashley and Virginia Tech junior goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn share ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Whitsett was the Cardinals' leading scorer in a 2-0 opening week with seven points on three goals and one assist. In her Louisville debut, she led the offense with two goals and an assist in an 8-1 win over Wright State. She tallied the game-winner in the 26th minute followed by an assist three minutes later, and her second goal in the 58th minute.

Against Xavier, Whitsett headed a cross from Allison Whitfield into the back of the net with eight seconds remaining in the first overtime period for the game-winner. After two games, Whitsett leads the ACC and the team in scoring and goals scored.

The Cardinals return to action this week as they travel to Dayton on Thursday night.
