She is the first Louisville player to earn All-American honors since 2020
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — University of Louisville senior defender Karsyn Cherry was named a Second Team All-American, the United Soccer Coaches announced Friday afternoon. Cherry is the first Louisville player to earn All-American honors since Emina Ekic in 2020.
In her final season with the Cardinals, Cherry was a team captain and started in 19 matches. She helped the Cardinals reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 and the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2020. She was named second team All-ACC following the regular season where the Cardinals won 13 matches, one shy of the program record.
In those 19 matches on the backline, the Cardinals allowed just 13 goals, good for a 0.68 goals-against average. In 11 of those matches, the Cardinals held their opponents scoreless and only allowed four goals at home across 12 matches. The Cardinals finished 10-0-2 at home this season, the first time in program history that they went undefeated at home in a single season.
Cherry was a workhorse, playing 90 minutes or more in 14 matches this season, including all 110 minutes of the NCAA First Round matchup against in-state rival Kentucky. Cherry also produced on the offensive end, as she tallied three goals, four assists and 10 total points. She converted her penalty in the penalty shootout against Kentucky to advance the Cardinals to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In the second round against Kansas, she assisted on the Cardinals goal in the first half.
