Cardinals Host Xavier on Sunday Night

Cardinals finish out first week of competition against the Musketeers
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team will wrap up the opening weekend on Sunday as they host Xavier in Lynn Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The Cardinals enter the game with a 1-0 record after an impressive win over Wright State on Thursday night.
In a total team effort, six different Cardinals scored goals. Freshman Maisie Whitsett led the offense with two goals and two assists in her debut as a Cardinal. Emina Ekic also tallied two goals, while Nadege L'Esperance, Delaney Snyder, and Kennadi Carbin each recorded one goal and one assist.
The Cardinals edged the Raiders 24-3 in shots and 14-1 in corners. On the defensive side, the Cardinals only allowed three shots by Wright State. Redshirt freshman Lana Batson recorded her first career save in the second half. Gabby Kouzelos collected the win in goal for the Cardinals.
Scouting Xavier
In 2017, the Musketeers finished the season with an overall mark of 8-8-4 and went 4-3-2 in BIG EAST action, earning a winning conference record for the first time since 2005. The Musketeers return six starters from last season, including BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Sydney Schembri, who finished with 12 points and six goals in her debut season. In goal, Toni Bizzaro recorded 106 saves and four shutouts with a .828 save percentage in 2017.
Nate Lie enters his second season as Xavier's head coach after leading the Musketeers to their first appearance in the BIG EAST Championships since joining the conference.

Xavier holds a 13-2 edge over Louisville in head-to-head action. The Cards defeated the Musketeers 1-0 in overtime at Cardinal Park on Sept. 19, 2004.
