Eagles plate game-winning run in the eighth inning to salvage final game of the weekend

BRIGHTON, Mass. - Boston College scored a run in the eighth inning to earn a 2-1 win and salvage the final game of the weekend series against the No. 29 Louisville baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Harrington Village.

Brian Dempsey's two-out RBI single scored Jack Cunningham from third to push the Eagles ahead for good in the eighth. Righthander Thomas Lane pitched a scoreless ninth inning to complete two innings of shutout relief for the win. The game-winning single capped a 3-for-4 performance at the plate for Dempsey.

Boston College (16-30, 7-20 ACC) gained its first lead of the weekend with a run in the third inning after Dante Baldelli scored on a RBI groundout off the bat of Cunningham. Baldelli coaxed a leadoff walk and moved to third on a double from Chris Galland before scoring on Baldelli's ground ball to second.

The Cardinals (32-15, 12-12 ACC) evened the score at 1-1 in the fifth inning after Zach Britton scored from third on Devin Mann's RBI groundout. Britton reached base with a leadoff walk, moved to second on a bunt single by Jake Snider and took third on a balk by Brian Rapp before scoring the tying run on the ground ball to the shortstop.

Britton had three walks for Louisville, while Jake Snider was 2-for-4 with a double and one stolen base. Freshman righthander Bobby Miller provided the Cardinals with his fourth straight quality start allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts in seven innings.

Up next, No. 29 Louisville returns home for a pair of midweek games at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals host Wright State on Tuesday at 6 p.m., ET, while Cincinnati visits the corner of Third and Central for Cancer Awareness Night on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
