The schedule features matches against six 2017 NCAA Tournament squads and one College Cup qualifier
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's soccer team announced its 2018 schedule, which features matches against six 2017 NCAA Tournament squads and one College Cup qualifier. The Cardinals' challenging slate includes an exhibition match and nine home matches at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
"Every year we make a point to schedule teams who are really going to challenge us and help prepare us for our very demanding ACC schedule," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "This year is no different and we are excited about many of our match ups. We have a great core group of returning players and a lot of new faces that will benefit from a challenging non conference schedule before we begin ACC play. "
Entering their fifth season as a member of the ACC, the Cardinals will play 10 matches against league opponents. Six of the 10 matches will feature 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, two of which will be played at Lynn Stadium.
After a home exhibition match against Morehead State on Aug. 11, the Cardinals open the season at Lynn Stadium with Wright State on Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming Xavier on Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
The Cardinals then head north for the first of two road matches against Dayton on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Michigan for an afternoon matchup on Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. Louisville will return to Lynn Stadium to close out August with the Battle of the Bluegrass against instate rival Kentucky on Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m.
Following a week of preparation, the Cards hit the road for a Thursday night tilt against Purdue on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Three days later, Louisville will be back in action at Lynn Stadium on Sept. 9 for the final nonconference match of the season against Eastern Kentucky at 7:30 p.m.
The Cardinals kick off ACC action on Sept. 15 with a weekend clash at Pittsburgh before hosting two conference foes at Lynn Stadium. Louisville will first face off against 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier Notre Dame on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., followed by Syracuse on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
To close out September, the Cardinals will meet North Carolina for another matchup against a 2017 NCAA Tournament squad on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
October begins with a tough test as Louisville prepares to host its first 2017 NCAA Tournament quarterfinal opponent, Virginia, at Lynn Stadium on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. Just three days later, the Cardinals host Miami on Oct. 7 at noon.
The Cards will then hit the road for three consecutive matches against 2017 NCAA qualifiers, starting with Wake Forest on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Six days later, Louisville will face off against College Cup participant Duke on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. On Oct. 21, the Cardinals conclude the three-match road stand with a Sunday afternoon match against NC State at 1 p.m.
On Oct. 28, the Cards return home for their final match of the regular season versus Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
