Cardinals Capture Two Titles on Third Night at Mesa

Mallory Comerford won the 50 freestyle and Kelsi Dahlia won the 50 butterfly.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mallory Comerford and Kelsi Dahlia each captured their second event title of the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mesa, Ariz. to headline the third evening of competition at the Skyline Aquatic Center for the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming team.
In the first event of the evening, Marcelo Acosta dropped nearly two seconds from his morning swim to place fifth in the 400M free in a time of 3:54.79. T.C. Smith finished 16th overall with a time of 4:02.74.
The 50M races for each of the four strokes were swum in a shootout style, where the top four swimmers advanced to the semifinals. The top two swimmers from the semifinal race then competed head-to-head to crown the winner.
Kelsi Dahlia won the 50M fly in dominant fashion, racing to a time of 25.74 to beat Farida Osman in the finals. Her time set a new Pro Series record and was less than three tenths of a second off her own American Record. Mallory Comerford finished sixth in the event, posting a time of 26.65.
In women's 400M free, Sophie Cattermole dropped significant time from her prelims swim, touching the wall in a time of 4:16.31.
Carlos Claverie finished seventh overall in the finals of the 50M breast, racing to a time of 28.25.
Mallory Comerford won the Cards' second title of the evening, stopping the clock in a time of 25.10 in the 50M free. Comerford's top time of the day came in the quarterfinals, where she put up a 24.94. Kelsi Dahlia tied for third in the semifinals, recording a time of 25.48. Dahlia's fastest swim was also in the quarterfinals of the event, where she posted a 25.24.
In the men's 50M free, Andrej Barna put up a time of 23.08 to finish seventh among a stacked field.
The final day of action at the TYR Pro Swim Series begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. PST with the timed finals of the 1500M free. Marcelo Acosta and T.C. Smith will compete for the Cards.
