Cards taking 15 to compete
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a historic NCAA Championships, the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming team returns to competition for the TYR Pro Swim Series at Mesa. The Cardinals will send 15 swimmers to the meet, which will be held at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa, Ariz. from April 12-15.

This weekend's competition at Mesa is the third of six stops on the TYR Pro Swim Series and will feature a star-studded field of national and international competitors. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. PST Thursday through Saturday with finals beginning at 5 p.m. PST on Thursday and 4:40 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Thursday and Friday will be conducted in the traditional prelims/finals format with the top 16 swimmers from prelims advancing to the 'A' and 'B' finals. On Saturday, the 400 free will have two heats of finals with the addition of a "shoot-out style final" for the 50 meter events. The competition concludes on Sunday at 8 a.m. PST with the timed finals of the men's and women's 1500 meter free.

Among the standouts who are expected to compete at the TYR Pro Swim Series at Mesa are United States Olympic medalists Nathan Adrian, Matt Grevers, Chase Kalisz, Ryan Murphy, Allison Schmitt, Leah Smith, and Louisville's own Kelsi Dahlia.Â

In their last outing, the Cardinal women recorded a program-best fifth place finish at the 2018 NCAA Championships. At the championships, seven Cardinals earned All-American honors in a combined ten individual events and all five relays. For the seventh consecutive season, Louisville brought home a national championship. Mallory Comerford won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.80, capturing the title for the second time in a row and recording the second fastest time in history.

On the men's side, the Cardinals placed ninth to tie their best finish in program history. Marcelo Acosta was the top finisher for Louisville with a fifth place finish in the 1650 freestyle. Nicolas Albiero also had a stellar NCAA Championships, taking sixth in the 100 back and breaking his own National Age Group Record in the 200 butterfly to place ninth overall.
