Oriente goes 2-for-4 with two RBIs; Dickey earns first collegiate win with two scoreless innings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Danny Oriente had a pair of hits and two RBIs while righthander Austin Dickey earned his first collegiate win as the No.21 Louisville baseball team cruised to a 7-2 victory over Northern Kentucky on Tuesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Oriente finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored once to go with his two runs driven in for the Cardinals (21-11), who had a 13-3 advantage in hits in the victory over the Norse (7-21). Devin Mann added two hits, one RBI, one stolen base and scored once, while Jake Snider and Tyler Fitzgerald chipped in with two hits each. Josh Stowers doubled, stole two bases, drove in a run and scored once.

On the mound, Dickey led a stellar night for the Louisville bullpen as the sophomore had two strikeouts in two scoreless innings of relief for the win. The Jeffersonville, Indiana native combined with four other relievers to register 12 strikeouts and allow just one hit in eight scoreless innings. Righthander Liam Jenkins had four strikeouts in two innings, lefty Gavin Sullivan total three strikeouts in two innings, righty Stewart Currie had one punchout in his inning of work and Sam Bordner had two strikeouts in a perfect ninth inning.

The Norse opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-out, two-run double by Griffin Doersching. Following a single by Will Hauter and a walk to Chad Roberts, Doersching sent the first pitch he saw from senior lefty Rabon Martin down the left field line for the 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals evened the score at 2-2 in the second inning. Stowers doubled with one out before scoring on Oriente's RBI single up the middle. Later in the inning, Oriente moved to third on Pat Rumoro's single to right field and then scored on a throwing error by NKU's Andrew Bacon.

Louisville gained control with a three-run third inning. Mann pushed the Cardinals ahead for good with his RBI single to center to score Lucas Dunn, who singled earlier in the inning. Logan Wyatt followed with a RBI single to right field to plate Snider before Stowers drove Mann home with a RBI squeeze bunt.

The advantage increased to 6-2 in the fourth inning after Fitzgerald scored on a RBI sacrifice fly from Dunn. Louisville added its final run of the night on Oriente's RBI single to score Stowers in the seventh inning.

Up next, No.21 Louisville takes to the road for a weekend series at Virginia Tech. The Cardinals and Hokies are slated to play Friday at 6 p.m., ET, Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
