Women's Lacrosse to Play Vanderbilt in Nashville on Tuesday
February 26, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
The Cardinals and Commodores will square off at 4 p.m. ET.
The Cardinals seek their third straight win overall and their sixth consecutive against the Commodores.
"We're getting better, we're challenging them to get better every day and I think every time we step on the field we're improving as a program," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We're starting to understand our systems and fine tune our systems, and play a style of play that myself and our staff wants us to play."
Last week, Caroline Blalock recorded eight goals and three assists as Louisville won at Butler, 20-4, and at home against Coastal Carolina, 16-7. She had four goals and an assist as the Cards routed Butler and then found the net four times in the second half, while dishing out two assists, against Coastal. She also added two ground balls.
"My teammates cleared space for me and I listened to coach going down the lane and finishing my shots," said Blalock.
Lexie Ball put up a .577 save percentage in the two wins. Against Butler, she allowed four goals in the first half, but shut out the Bulldogs in the second stanza and finished with nine saves and a .692 save percentage. She then helped hold Coastal scoreless for the first 17 minutes of the first half before eventually allowing seven goals.
ABOUT THE COMMODORES
Vanderbilt (3-0) opened the season with wins in its first three games. They downed Furman on Saturday in their home opener, 19-7.
"Vanderbilt is a good team and this a tough stretch for us, with three games in six days. So, we have to rest up in a hurry, get our scout in, and just work to be better than we were in our last game," added Teeter.
"They (Vanderbilt) are a quick team, they play all over the field like midfielders, but I think we match up pretty well with them," said Julia Wood, who faced the Commodores last year.
