Women's Lacrosse Hangs On to Win at Vanderbilt, 17-15
February 27, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
Hall and Hoover finished with four goals each in the win.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Ally Hall and Madison Hoover scored four goals each as Louisville women's lacrosse held on to win 17-15 at Vanderbilt on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Cardinals extend their winning streak to three games and move to 5-1 on the year.
"We came ready to play and built ourselves another lead, but we're just hanging on," said head coach Scott Teeter. "I was happy with them making plays in the second half, stopping runs. At times, Vanderbilt would push the gas a little bit, but we had players step up and make a play and that really sealed the victory for us today."
The Cards jumped out to a 6-1 lead as they received two goals from Hoover, along with goals from Hall, Caroline Blalock, Jillian Balog and Tessa Chad in the first 12 minutes.Â
They went into the locker room with a 10-7 lead at half and Vanderbilt pulled within two goals at 10-8, 11-9, 12-10 and 13-11 in the second half. But, Louisville responded by scoring four straight goals to push their lead to 17-11 with under eight minutes to go.
The Commodores scored the last four goals of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the six-goal deficit.
Hoover led the way for the Cards with four goals, two assists and four ground balls, while Hall added four goals of her own.
"Madison (Hoover) and Ally (Hall) were outstanding for us at X. They made a lot of plays, a lot of one-on-one plays, they created and they went hard," added Teeter.
Blalock and Chad joined Hoover and Hall, by finishing with hat tricks of their own. Blalock had three goals and six ground balls, while Chad added three goals and an assist.
Emily Howell finished with a team-high four assists.
Next up, Louisville begins ACC play when they host Notre Dame on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
