Women's Lacrosse Records Three Hat Tricks in 16-7 Win Over Coastal Carolina
February 24, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
Caroline Blalock led the Cards with four goals and two assists.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's lacrosse advanced to 4-1 on the season after defeating Coastal Carolina 16-7 on Saturday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
Â
"I think we challenged the girls this week in a couple different areas. One was to play with more grit and tenacity and I thought we did that today. I think it really showed in the area of the draws, we cleaned that up. I think our midfield play, our midfield draws, rides, and clears, that's what won us the game," said head coach Scott Teeter.
Â
Jillian Balog, Emily Howell, Tessa Chad, Alex McNicholas, and Julia Wood opened the game with goals in the first 15 minutes to give the Cardinals a 5-0 lead.
Â
Louisville then extended its lead to 8-1 before Coastal answered with three goals to end the half.
Â
Coming out of the locker room, Caroline Blalock answered the Chanticleers' run by scoring the first of her four goals just 24 seconds into the half.
Â
CCU pulled within four again at 9-5, but the Cardinals held them scoreless the final 20 minutes of the game as they cruised to the 16-7 win.
Â
The Cardinals trio of Balog, Blalock and Wood each finished with a hat trick in the win. Blalock led the way with four goals and two assists, while Balog and Wood added three each.
Â
Howell finished with two goals and three ground balls, while McNicholas added two assists and three ground balls.
Â
Overall, eight different players found the back of the net for the Cards.
Â
Lexie Ball ended the game with six saves.
Â
The Cardinals travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Vanderbilt on Tuesday, February 27 at 4 p.m. ET.
