
Wolf, Mann Lead No. 13 Louisville in Season-Opening Win

Wolf twirls five strong innings, Mann homers and drives in three runs in 4-3 victory over Richmond
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Junior lefthander Adam Wolf twirled five scoreless frames while junior infielder Devin Mann homered and drove in three runs as the 13th-ranked Louisville baseball team opened the 2018 season with a 4-3 win against Richmond at the Charleston Crab House Challenge at Joseph P. Riley Park.
Making his first collegiate start, Wolf registered a career-best seven strikeouts and surrendered just three hits with two walks without allowing a run in 5.0+ innings, his longest outing in 40 career appearances. The native of Milan, Ohio improved his career record to 7-0 overall while the Cardinals won their fifth straight season-opener and moved to 10-2 overall in season-opening games under head coach Dan McDonnell.
Mann paced the offense finishing 3-for-4 at the plate highlighted by his ninth collegiate home run while also matching a career high with his three RBIs. Sophomore Ethan Stringer delivered a successful college debut finishing 2-for-2 at the plate with a solo home run on his first ever pitch and a double later in the game. Junior Josh Stowers added a single, one walk, one stolen base and two runs scored in the victory.
The Cardinals started fast with a run in the first inning after Mann drove Stowers home with a one-out RBI single to left off Spiders starter Tim Miller. The advantage moved to 2-0 in the second inning when Stringer belted the first offering from Miller over the scoreboard in left field for a two-out solo shot. Mann crushed a 2-2 pitch from Antonio Balducci on his homer to left in the sixth inning before adding a RBI single to in the eighth inning to send Stowers home for the 4-0 lead.
Richmond mounted a late rally scoring three runs on four hits in the ninth inning before junior righthander Sam Bordner entered from the Louisville bullpen to record the final out of the game and register his fifth career save. Junior righthander Bryan Hoeing pitched three perfect innings of relief before surrendering a pair of hits and allowing two runs in the ninth.
No. 13 Louisville will continue the Charleston Crab House Challenge against host The Citadel on Saturday at 4 p.m., ET and the game will be aired live on 93.9 The Ville.
