Emina Ekic Earns All-American Honors

The sophomore earns second team All-American honors to finish out the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville sophomore Emina Ekic was named a second team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches association. Ekic is one of 50 players named to the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's All-America Teams announced on Thursday night, the eve of the College Cup semifinals in Cary, N.C.
"Emina is one of the best players in the country and I'm thrilled that she has been named an All- American," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "She is a special player who works tirelessly on being the best she can be. She is absolutely one of the best players I have ever had the privilege to coach and I'm excited that she has two more years of eligibility. Emina is not only a fantastic soccer player but she is truly a wonderful person as well. She is loyal, humble, hard-working and an amazing teammate. I know her teammates will be super excited for her!"
Earlier this week Ekic was named a first team all-region selection after an impressive sophomore campaign. Following the regular season she earned first team All-ACC honors. In the preseason, Ekic was named preseason All-ACC and was on the Hermann Trophy Watch List. Coming off an injury from last season, she was outstanding in ACC play this season. Ekic, the 2017 ACC Freshman of the Year, finished the regular season with seven goals and five assists for 19 points. She helped the Cardinals score in five of the last six matches, including two game-winning goals. She led the team with 47 shots and 22 shots on goal.
Ekic becomes the seventh All-American in school history. She is the first Cardinal to earn All-American honors since Christine Exeter was named a third team All-American in 2011. She is the first Louisville player to earn second team honors, with the previous six selections earned third and fourth team honors.
