Cardinals Host Lipscomb on Tuesday Night

Kickoff for Louisville and Lipscomb set for 7 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 11 Louisville men's soccer team plays its final regular season non-conference match of 2018 when Lipscomb visits Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on Tuesday at 7 p.m., ET. The match will be will be televised on ACC Network Extra, while live stats will be available at GoCards.com.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Ranked 11th in last week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25, Louisville enters Tuesday's match with a 7-2-3 record after Friday's 2-2 draw with No. 24 Syracuse. The Cardinals are second in the ACC Atlantic and third overall in the league with 11 points and a 3-1-2 mark. The top four teams in the conference will earn a first round bye and a second round home game in the ACC Championship.Â
Cherif Dieye and Adam Wilson lead the Cardinals with four goals this season, including two game-winners each. Geoffrey Dee and Tate Schmitt have three goals each, while Schmitt also has a team-leading five assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch has started nine of 12 matches this season registering three shutouts overall and a 1.03 goals against average.
The Cardinals produced another successful season in 2017 reaching the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship for the fifth time in the last eight seasons, including the second straight year, and earning a No. 7 ranking in the final United Soccer Coaches Top 25. Louisville had a 13-2-5 record and was second in the ACC Atlantic with a 5-2-1 league mark.
ABOUT THE BISONS
Lipscomb is 4-8-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Atlantic Sun following a 3-1 home win over Liberty on Saturday. The Bisons have won three of their last four matches entering Tuesday's contest. Last season, Lipscomb was 11-8-2 overall and 2-4-0 in the ASUN.
SERIES SNAPSHOT
Louisville won the only previous regular season meeting between the two programs registering a 5-2 victory against Lipscomb in 2008. Last season, the Bisons did visit Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium for an exhibition match won by the Cardinals, 1-0. Tuesday's match will be Louisville's first regular season game against an opponent from Tennessee since earning a 6-0 home win over Belmont on Oct. 4, 2016.

The NCAA released the fourth RPI of the 2018 season on Monday and Louisville remained at No. 6 overall for the second straight week. The Cardinals are among nine ACC teams in the top 12 positions in the latest RPI, including six of the top seven teams.Â
SCHMITT NAMED CANDIDATE FOR 2018 SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Tate Schmitt was among 30 men's soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field named as candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Each of the 60 candidates (30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates) has displayed a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the pitch with 34 returning after earning first-team conference honors, 30 having grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher, nine being on the MAC Hermann Watch List for 2018 and seven returning All-Americans. Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.
Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
